Backyard Baseball '01

Backyard Baseball '01

This one was way better than '97, hurry it up
I'm enjoying playing '97 but it's so hard to ignore all the features it was missing from the later games. For me, the big ones are the more fleshed-out skill system with good days and bad days for the players, and having home fields during the season (as it stands, we're just using the one boring field for all of the games).

If this one somehow becomes un-publishable due to licensing issues, it would be nice if you could just import these features into the '97 version. There's not much reason for it to be an actual 1 to 1 copy of the original game, a lot of the early changes made it a lot better.

Yeah, Backyard Baseball 2001 was a major improvement over the original. The only thing the 97 version has that the 01 version hasn't is the ability to save single games.

It will most likely have just the kid versions of the pro players and NOT the real world teams

I could live with that.

They don't have the source code for Backyard Baseball 2001. I doubt they could remove the MLB teams even if they wanted to.

Ok, that's a good point

You know what? Maybe the MLB teams won't be in the remaster after all since any reference to MLB teams has been omitted in the trailer. It looks like the development team actually do somewhat have control over a few tweaks. However, at least some of the pros themselves are confirmed to be returning.

Not only does it look like the MLB teams won't be returning but it also appears that the teams from the original Backyard Baseball that were dropped in '01 (Giants, Socks, All-Stars, and Rockets) may be re-added in this re-release because a recent post on Backyard Sports' Instagram shows Nomar Garciaparra with the Socks team logo on his hat (okay, so that only indicates that the Socks team will be re-added but I have hope that the other three scrapped teams will return too).

As long as the pros (particularly Randy Johnson) are still in the game, that is totally fine by me.
Besides, I never really used any of the real world teams anyway; I always made my own.
Something's hit me: the MLB teams are shown in the intro of Backyard Baseball 2001 (with them appearing each time a character hits a baseball with their bat). This would create an issue because since in all the footage and images we've seen of this re-release, every reference to the MLB has been taken out (except for the pro players, of course). I think it would be rather tough to find a way to edit out the MLB teams in the intro.

The source code is gone forever so the developers won't have a choice but to leave the intro intact. plus on a side note, I believe the teams will be in the remaster, because on one of the screen shots on the player select screen where Pete wheeler is featured, if you look on the bottom right corner, you'll see the team name "Devil Rays". That must've been the first team they got when the remaster was announced.
