i have never seen an ai cheat this hard.
so after finally earning a dam profit on one of my games, an AI demands stuffs from me or its war. i decline, thinking since its normal diffuculty that our forces would be relatively the same. LOL NOPE, after a few weeks the AI sends around 20/30 units to seige one of my towns whilst i can barely pay the upkeep for my 5 standard mercs, freaking amazing

I just experienced my first war also. The AI had 2 cities more than me. I had a stable economy and about a million in cash and a total of 10 military units. I fealt that I could at least handle a defencive war.

The AI came with an army of about the same size. I sent in my army. And the battlle just never ended. Reinforcment came constantly poring in. I had to do the same thing.
And I just watched my money disapering til my troops just said ***** THIS and went home.

So it will be yet another restart for me. And I have no idea what to do differently... :)

Watch Kailvin's Youtube episode #40. He explains why fighting the AI is futile thus far. In its present state the game is an economic game and is neat while you are dealing with city-states. But as soon as you encounter a major player, then it starts to be frustrating because when they declare war (and they will), you will see that they can instantly create army after army with an efficiency that humans cannot duplicate.., so the AI armies just keep coming. These armies do not siege your cities, they just raid, and raid, and raid.., Super frustrating.

In summary, play one of the smaller maps and just have maybe a SINGLE AI enemy and just trade and fight with the city-states. Or just shelve the game and hope the AI is reworked.

I do agree the AI needs a Tune-down especially on expansion I played a game in middle of europe with 8 AIs and scouted around I saw the AI having 3 towns and its main had end tech business running which it prolly earned millions on :/ I lost a good game because of it :/

I also would like to see a sandbox mode like just no AI and a bunch of neutral towns around so you can train and test in freedom.

in the settings you can adjust for a single AI on the Europe map. You will probably never see the AI.
Well the AI is hyperexpansive, so no doubt you will see it at some point. My biggest problem is that battles become grindfests.

odd? I thaught if I put in a single AI it would become to powerfull and be all over the place I mean they expand to insanity if theirs 8 of them...

it does large battles end up with attrition in the end and do take quite awhile even at 10x

Hmmm, I never thought about the AI would become too powerful if you had a single AI. That is a good point, I take back what I said above. Thanks

Fighting the AI is not as useless as it was for kailvin, now that the enemies have capitals(well, most of them anyway.)

The problem I have now is that I face an AI in the campaign free play map with over 100 cities and no capital, myself owning hundreds of cities i stole from the other AIs im struggling with new trade routes to keep my economy in the positives because of all the production cost of said overtaken cities

so you dont even get the choice to destroy the enemy AI cities? wow this game just gets worse and worse. hopefully the patches will be enougth to fix this mess of a game and they wont just hide everything behind dlc

The Ai it seems can also peruade neutral cities to join it at will in a fraction of the time and money that it would take a human player. Sad to say but it's starting to look like it would take more time and money to fix this game that it's worth.

You can destory cities, your own and conquered enemies. Its just never shown in the campaign.
Demolish button on builders can be used to destory roads AND cities
