For the bandit camp: yes, such a bandit camp exists. They do not show up with a golden line or anything like it, however, unlike things such as commodity piles, tents, camps, caves, ruins and other things like that. This makes bandit camps hard to spot, but they definitely do exist. Just zoom in a bit and look for any buildings that may be used as bandit camp, and if you hover your cursor over it, it'll say "Bandit camp". The longer you wait with destroying a bandit camp, the more defenders it'll have - and thus the harder it'll be to destroy, so keep that in mind.
Good luck! Bandits and animals have so far screwed up both of my two playthroughs, entirely ruining my economy.
I did send troops in to kill them, but I found no way of destroying the cave, and it seams they just respawn after a while.
Thanks to Emperor to pointing this out once more. Unfortunately this hint drowned a little during the day.
As said, if players have the resources and the development available, the can build watchtowers, which must be manned with archers. The watchtowers do not only guard your "borders" for incoming opponents, but as well will help a lot when it comes to "neutral" units, such as bandits and bears.
