Infil needs a buff
Seriously, after a few games with the thing, it's weak. Next to no armor, "okay" at best speed, meh turn, laughable main gun, ion charge's damage is dissapointing for how long it takes work up to and how long the CD on it is...

There is simply no reason to play this ship. In it's current state it bring literally nothing to the table other than an AoE nuke you rarely ever get to use the AoE portion on because people are generally naturally spread out in this game anyway. Takes way too long to build up to it's damage and even when you finally do build up to it's damage, it's hardly a sight to behold.

Could do the same amount of damage if not more in less time on a Destroyer/reaper/hunter, etc. Not even mentioning the range of the damn thing and how buggy the cloak is currently.

The Infil can do something the Assassin can't: smash small ships. It is very good at picking off Frigates and Disruptors and kill them with it's AOE blast.
The Assassin is pretty much worthless against a skilled Hunter, Frigate, Disruptor and any other fast small ship as it simply cannot hit them.

Frigates are adorable, thinking they can shield to avoid the damage, and then they lose most of their HP in one shot because they didn't run.

I am not sure I agree they're good at smashing Disruptors though. Still, getting the heal drones on the disruptor instead of a stronger target is a net win in my opinion.

Actually, there is a perfectly logical explaination why a stealth system wont last very long. And that is heat. The only way to "stealth" something in space, is making sure it does not emit any heat(or other form form radiation).
But that also means that the heat is stored inside the ship. Prolonged usage would be intolerable for the crew, if not fatal.

Im actually looking forward to energy being added for the Assassin as well(it doesnt need to drain as fast as the Infiltrator though).

God now I am de-railing my own thread but question to this: then how can they stay cloaked if they simply don't move? if you move just a little at a time you could stay cloaked forever in this game o_o. So there must be some kind of other explanation for how there stealth systems work right?
Even without moving, your ship's systems still generate a lot of heat. Even basic lifesupport and lightning, and the stealth system itself would probably enough to work the heatsinks to the max. ;)

Imagine no heat could leave your body(through skin, air or anything). Even if you were not to move, you would cook yourself within a few minutes, because the heat energy created by "living"(different functions throughout the body) wouldnt be able to leave your body.

Just my 2 cents, for me the thing is fun, simple as that and i use it like the assassin hitting the wounded knee ppl that jump back to their base. Once hes dead cap a bit then base and do it again.. my only prob with any of the cloaks is we are in space and its the future so they should last wayyyy longer.

This is not a space sim its a MOBA of sorts and hell in stuff like eve the cloaking is way better,
I just dont see why this game cant have a better cloak thats all. A cloak that you can only fly with every few with seconds just hinders and slows the game play for the player/team IMHO. again just my 2 cents..

Obviously. But he was just messing around not suggesting reasons why the cloak should work in a certain way in game xP

From my point of view the inf is a lot more like the long range hunter than the assasin. Cloak->drones->cloak->follow target (stay in cover)->ion blast->cloak and repeat. The ion blast is the primary weapon, not the guns. Those are good for finishing off a damaged target or engaging a support, but not much more. Use the cloak to misslead rockets and drones and try to change your pisition before using the ion blast or using the guns. The blink of your drones is awesome since they have a huge range and can also use it to retreat in order to avoid destruction.

I submit you are doing Infiltrator wrong. The DPS pressure from the guns is amazing and shouldn't be discounted. You DO disengage with the Infiltrator, but as a means to gain positional advantage and/or mitigate damage. You don't play the knife-in-the-dark game like an Assassin, you can't catch people on blinks with Ion Blast and Ion Drones don't have enough fuel.

You're there to break armor, distract from other dps, catch retreating enemies, and force ships to move.

As for optimal range, it depends a lot on what you're fighting. The bigger the ship is, the closer I find myself getting to it so I can get under its guns while still acheiving time to cloak via area disarm.

Double infiltrator on the other hand is definetely op imo.

I mean or you could have an Enforcer that could be doing the same damage faster with better pursuit. The Infiltrator's damage is not so amazing that you wanna stack them, in my experience. Maybe in actual clan games that could work, but giving up another team slot to a soft ship that can't easily hold ground is a bad call for team composition, in my opinion.
