Higurashi 1.08 Update
Hey everyone!

Just letting you know we're pushing out an update for Higurashi, which will address some of the issues people have brought up on the forums here. The update should be available shortly and will download automatically (if you have automatic updates enabled). Some stuff I've pushed out a bit earlier but didn't make patch notes for, so here's the comprehensive list of things that have been changed since launch.

Edit: Updated with 1.08 information.

1.08 Update

Fixes

- Added the chapter preview screen after clicking start game.
- Updated drawing code used on mac and linux releases. Characters should no longer sometimes appear blury.
- The engine is now set to pick the optimal rendering engine for your system rather than defaulting to DirectX 9 (on windows).

Modding

- Scripts in the 'Scripts' folder no longer automatically recompile. If you're making changes, please use the 'Update' folder to have scripts automatically recompile.

1.07 Update

Fixes

- Additional typo fixes.

Modding

- Added support for changing aspect ratio.
- Added support for moving the main UI.
- Added support for specifying name tags (see init.txt and test.txt for usage).

1.06 Update

Fixes

- Fixed negative screen transition occurring abnormally slow.
- Corrected an issue where you could cancel out of dialogs by right clicking even after hitting yes, causing the game to possibly break in horrifying ways.
- Fixed the same kind of issue on the save/load screen.
- The "Are you sure you want to load" dialog now shows the correct language for the text preview rather than always English.
- Fixed a few more text issues.

1.05 Update

Fixes

- Fixed some (more) typos.

Modding
- Added a Chinese compatible font, set fontid to 3 in init.txt to use.
- The game should be a bit smarter about what scripts to recompile.

1.04 Update

- To prevent some funny business from going on, you can no longer save while viewing tips.
- When returning from viewing tips, saving your game on the chapter screen will no longer cause you to return to the last line of the tip you viewed when you load. It should also have the correct save title.
- Attempting to save your game immediately after loading your game no longer causes unpredictable behaviour.
- When loading a game, returning to the title screen, or finish reading a tip, auto mode and skip mode will automatically cancel.
- The game will automatically recompile scripts in the update folder after a game update.
- Fixed some missing Japanese kanji that weren't present in font that appears in the after-scenario review party.
- Fixed some typos.

1.03 Update

- Fixed a script/text desync issue in the festival scene.
- Fixed a bug in which save file names would show up in the wrong language when saving at the end of a chapter.
- Corrected one of the 'tips obtained' images being incorrect due to a recent correction.

1.02 Update

Features

- Press the 'P' key to swap between the original and new sprites. Note that to prevent bizzare bugs, you can only do this while the game is waiting for input.

Modding

- Init.txt and Flow.txt are now provided so you can make changes.
- Init.txt also has some new tools that were added to allow for easier control over the text window.

Fixes

- A few more typo and consistency fixes. I hope we're running out of these to fix!
- The text shader was incorrectly targeting shader 3.0, which may have made some systems unable to see text properly.


1.01 Update

Features

- Added additional hotkeys. You can advance text using return, right arrow, page down, or the numpad enter button. The backlog can be brought up using left arrow or page up. You can turn on auto mode using the 'A' key, skip mode using the 'S' key, and toggle fullscreen with the 'F' key. Also added keyboard shortcuts on several other screens.
- You can now use the 'L' key to switch between English and Japanese text display at any time.

Modding

- To assist modders, cyrillic language characters were added to the game font.
- An 'update' folder was added to the StreamingAssets directory. For those interested in modding or making changes to the script files, placing scripts in this folder will take priority over those in the Scripts folder and will not be overwritten when we push out game updates.

Fixes

- A wide variety of typos and grammatical errors have been fixed.
- Fixed the incorrect background music playing when accessing the tips screen.
- The tips screen will return to the previously viewed page when returning.
- Fixed the beta (β) character not being displayed correctly in the Japanese script.
- Fixed a bug where when advancing rapidly multiple frames in a row, the game may not properly clear the 'wait for text' state, causing the caret to be incorrectly visible while the text hasn't finished typing yet.
- Fixed an issue where titles from saved games were being loaded before the selected language was being loaded, causing them to always show in English regardless of the specified language.
- Fixed an issue where the black bars would fail to completely cover the out of bounds area when the fullscreen resolution is sufficiently large.
- Fixed the settings option for 'allow skip unread text' being written incorrectly in Japanese.
- Fixed a bug where the new sprites would always be shown for the tips images regardless of which sprites you had selected to use.
- Added the ability to swap languages without going to the settings menu by simply hitting the L key.
- Fixed a bug where save games would not show the Japanese name if they were saved while playing in English.
- Fixed a bug where switching languages after loading a save game would cause some previous text to no longer be visible.

^This! I want to be able to appreciate the hard work put into the new sprites while still enjoying the classic look of the original, but going into the menu every time is very frustrating.

I share the sentiments of the person above me, I'm very happy about the work you've done so far. The TIPS screen music was one of the biggest issues I had, and these other fixes are welcome as well. Keep up the good work!

On the other hand, not trying to be picky but we still can't mod the the graphics files of the menus (buttons), the reading cursors and background of the tips menu, and being able to would be greatly apreciated. The Blue GUI looks pretty damn bad.
