Blood?
Note I havn't played the visual novel. But I have watched the anime and im curious if the visual novel will be as violent as the anime. Also is the visual novel different from the anime or about the same?

I think PS2 version is choice-based, it's like the choices affect what arc you go to; however, not all the arcs are unlocked right away. Sui is probably the same.

PC version doesn't have choices (save for a couple that don't affect plot in any way), it uses a linear progression of arcs.

I'm more interested in Hou. It seems that Higurashi on console always will be a bit late on content (except that they have exclusive arcs). Look at what I found, a nice montage:

Also it seems that they've already translated Hou arcs to english on youtube.

It is out, but it's only released as hard copy (dual CDs) and you have to import it from Japan.

Though there are fansubs for the new arcs as well as for the minigames, so that's kinda awesome :D

Speaking of bloody scenes, I was wondering if this translation would include any of the CGs or if it was the same as the original novels with updated sprites and backgrounds. If all they did was replace the sprites... I've already read the original novels (just look at my profile pic)

To my memory, there was only one CG in the original, one of Shion's eyes. Also, that Rena is not original. The original art is considerably uglier than your profile pic, you'll see soon enough, the old sprites will be an option in this release, as will the ability to read the story in Japanese.

Wait, are you talking about the eyes in Watanagashi-hen when Keiichi was calling Shion?! Those really creeped me out when I first played it and it came as a surprise jumpscare. Also, yes, the original art is horrible, and it looks like a five year old drew it. But I would love to see a HD remake of Shion's eyes jumpscare.

So would I, the CG that Alchemist replaced it with, however brief, was very effective.

I don't recall such a CG… There were some close-ups of the characters' eyes for some of the action sequences, but they're basically cropped versions of the regular sprites. As far as I'm aware, there are only two actual CGs in Higurashi, both of Rena — one in Tsumihoroboshi-hen and the other in the music room in Matsuribayashi-hen.

I didn't have access to the music room with my Mangagamer.com version copy. I don't recall the one of Rena, but I was referring to the split second image of a pair of (not really that scary) red tinged eyes that appeared during Watanagashi-hen, at the end of the final phone call from Shion. Decompiling the game revealed that all the game images are thrown in together, and that It is tagged the same as the backgrounds, but I call it a CG only for the reason that it is not showing scenery or something that would typically be considered a background, such as the blood splatters, red spirals, starry voids and the blotchy red miasma.

Would be interesting to see a screenshot. I don't recall there being such a CG, but I played the game almost 2 years ago, so...

Ha, It was very easy to miss. I originalaly watched the second arc via a lets play with patched Alchemist grapics and I think it extended the length that it apeared on screen by about half a second. Either way, because it wasn't almost entirely black it was easier to notice than the original.

Now, how to do this? I can't upload a screen shot, but I don't want to post a link to my own social media pages... I guess not, that was the most useless Google search I have ever performed since I tried looking for Puella Magi's Kyouko, performing her Rosso Phantasma technique.

Fine, here you go, my Facebook link, included are the old CG, The new CG and also some attempts at colouring and editing panels from the manga. My art skills are below average so colouring in is the best I can manage when it comes to image manipulation.

The new CG can be seen in context if you go to just before 1:20:42 on this video

You know that you could easily upload a screenshot to imgur or steam instad of giving us your facebook profile, right?
Ohagi-Chan Mar 20, 2015 @ 3:37pm
I don't have imgur, how do I upload to steam? Besides, that isn't really my facebook. It is just an alternative account that I don't use anymore.

Edit: worked it out, but I don't think that Steam rules will allow me to upload anything that isn't my own work. As a result, I don't think I should upload the screenshots to my artwork section, and I'll do it anyway, but I feel a little iffy about uploading the image edits I created, because they are based on an existing work, the author of which I did not recieve permission from.
