You can play this game with new sprites Second time, but for First time i STRONGLY recommend to play with original.

Why? I had no problem playing with the changed sprites for the first time.

In fact, I wouldn't have played this at all if it only had the original sprites.

It's really just a matter of preference.
Personally, I went with the new sprites as well, but I can totally understand people who are used to the old sprites or like the spirit/idea behind them more (after all, it is an artistic decision to keep them this way; even after the success of Higurashi, 07th Expansion didn't use some fancy, newer, "updated" style for Umineko, but wanted to keep this unusual art style).

I think it's great that Mangagamers decided to offer the possibility to switch between both art styles. This enables everyone to enjoy the game the way they want, so I don't think there's a need to bash other people for their preferences and try to force your opinion on others.
Just play and enjoy this wonderful novel the way you want!

I was able to read uminekos with original art, i think i deserve to see the new higurashi art now.

the original sprites are crayon scribble garbage and the new steam sprites are weird and over-sexualized.

luckily the playstation sprites are pretty good and easily moddable! hurray!

I'm kinda laughing right now that there is some people who hate the original sprites. This was originally three persons work, thats what i rember at least. I ask you people to do the same with yourselfs and see will you got better sprites,music and backrounds. I don't want to sound judgin, but true higurashi fan wouldn't call those sprites cheap ***.

Now my opinion is almost same with the sexualized part. New sprites look really weird in my opinion.

New ones are a great change. I'm playing the game swaping with 'P' and I just find funny some of the old ones. Males (detective and Tomi) are just hilarious at old version. I just can't take them seriously. And someone wrote about 'sexualized new ones'... Did he/she take a look at Satoko's breasts in old style ones? x D Nonsense. New ones are just more stylized (body) and with modern anime faces.

I would recommend swaping for curiosity while playing.

The original ones surely give a flashback feeling to those who played the game back then. But you guys can see that Higurashi got popular even with those "simple" Chara Design because of it's excellent story and characters. I think this says everyting :)

Well i said that, because it's what i think. Think about it, those who have read higurashi after it was released first time loved it because the story and music. I perhaps i was too judgin with my comment. I'm sorry if i offended somebody. I understand your opinion as well. You didn't offend me with that elitist thing, it was more funny thing to say to me.
