Eventual multiplayer coop?

Are you going to add non-local coop at some point? Would love to play this with friends and synergize builds.

I’ve thought about this a lot, and honestly, from a game development perspective, a game designed for four-player online co-op is fundamentally different from one designed for singleplayer.

Games like Helldivers 1 and 2 work so well because they were built from the beginning around playing with friends. I don’t think forcing four-player online co-op into Arms of God in its current form would produce a good experience.

There is also a huge technological difference between building a single player (local co-op too) game and a fully networked multiplayer game. It is not simply a matter of adding online connectivity to the existing mode.

To make it work properly, I would want to design the game around co-op from the ground up, with character classes that complement each other, builds that create synergies between players, and an architecture that can reliably support multiplayer.

So, to be completely honest, I currently think adding full online co-op directly to AoG would be the wrong decision. I know some players may be disappointed by that, but I don’t believe the game in its current form is well suited for it.

In the longer term, I’m more inclined to create a separate version or game designed specifically around co-op. I’m a solo developer and not a multiplayer specialist, but I know that building AoG as a full multiplayer game would have taken at least twice as long.
