The game is designed from the ground up to be played with a mouse.

Much of the gameplay is designed around the ability to quickly and precisely target in 360 degrees.

Playing the game with a controller would require using a stick to guide a virtual cursor around, which would have to move very slow in order to provide the amount of precision needed to solve the puzzles. It would be sluggish and convoluted.

When I tried playing LogiGun with a controller myself, it played terribly. Ultimately I decided not to support it.

could you have half controller support? trying to first find the right keys in the dark and then having to stretch my fingers across the keyboard is really unpleasant. if I could move the character with the controller, but then use my mouse to target, that could work, right?

I do understand what you say, some games i played with a controller that use a targetting cursor are really annoying. I just find keyboard controls to be really uncomfortable.

There are actually many programs available that can map controller input to keys. joy2key is a free one that I've heard about. xpadder is the one I use for games like Minecraft that don't have controller support, but it's not free.

However, LogiGun probably wouldn't work this setup. It has quite a few inputs and I don't think there are enough buttons on half a controller to be able to do everything. You can certainly try it out though.

hmm, sounds like a lot of hard work. I might give it a go. thanks anyway :)

it would be a shame if I didn't play your game, I thought it looked cool.
Alas, I can't be doing with complicated controls. that's why I don't play world of warcraft. they could make that far more intuitive.

After trying for a while, I'm afraid I have to say i cannot recommend your game to others if they find keyboard controls cumbersome. goes without saying, sure, but it is my feeling, controller support could be implimented. I've played portal with my controller and I never had any real problems with accuracy. I think it is an accessibility issue. So many people are accustomed to using controllers these days, a keyboard is not designed for playing games, it's designed for typing. game controllers are designed for playing games. If the game cannot be played well on a controller than it needs to be optimised in order to work on a controller. if precise aiming is required then there should be optional assist's. like a behaviour that 'snap's to the nearest interactive target. I can't force you to do this of course, or demand it, I will just play other games. I advise you to consider it though. it will give you a better response to your game. games are supposed to be fun, but I don't find it fun trying to stretch my little finger to hit the ctrl key. it hurts.
Thanks for teh nice design, it's a real shame it's no fun to play.

Thanks for the feedback Jess.

I grew up playing games with WASD controls, so they are second-nature to me. I didn't consider that some players aren't used to them, and might expect the game to control more like a traditional 2D platformer based on its appearance.

I do think there is a way to add controller support to LogiGun that would be at least passable, but unfortunately I don't have the time to spend on such an extensive reworking of LogiGun.

I will keep this feedback in mind for the future. I am currently working on my next game, and I can tell you that it plays beautifully with a controller.

oh, that's good! I liked the concept and style beind this one and the character animates nicely. it reminded me of 'another world'.
do you have a name for your next project yet so I can keep an eye out for it?

It won't be announced for some time. You can follow me on twitter @sodiumeyes if you want to follow its development.

Tell it to all those professional gamers (CS:GO, Starcraft II, Dota 2, LOL).
Keyboard has been a gaming peripherals for years so far. What's your issue with that?

K+M is a good tool for this game. Period. Get over you joypad fanboyism and use the proper tool. Do you always insist on eating soup with a fork? Come on, how do you want to perform precise actions with a sluggish joypad? You need control in this game - joypad can't deliver it.
I understand that you prefer joypad, but in some games it's simply a bad choice - just like K+M is bad choice for slashers (DMC), driving games and fighting games.

my issue with what you just said is that the keyboard was designed for typing, that explains all the letters on it. you might not have noticed but it is perfectly suited for forming words and sentences. it just so happens, computers come with keyboards as standard as a means of controlling them in tasks such as word processing. it so happens that game controls can be mapped to keys on the keyboard, but due to it's nature of not being designed for plaing games, it is not ideal. this is why 'GAMING KEYBOARDS' were invented which are not shipped with PC's as standard and cost a lot of money.

I eat soup with a spoon because a spoon was designed for eating liquid based foods. forks were designed for stabbing. devices are generally designed for the action which they will be used for. such as the keyboard with it's large array of buttons with alpha numeric characters on them. perfectly suited for typing. only marginally useful for gaming since the lazy games without optimised controls have to map every function to a separate button.
I don't have a fanboy/girl attitude to gamepads. I like them because they are designed to play games. when I play a game, I want to use a tool that was designed to do it. I don't think that makes me a fanatic. I think it makes me sensible and sane.

Do you want to control your car with a keyboard now? or maybe use a steering wheel? yeah I'll go with the proper tools thanks.
