NEW? Hegemony III: Isle of Giants
I only just noticed this on the main page :steamhappy: It is set in Sardinia and Corsica which seems only natural, but what does this mean for Hegemony III: Taker of Cities which was to be set in Rhodes?

Tbh, I much prefer this approach, maybe combined with some improved naval gameplay. might just get me back into modding :)

Looks bad for Rhodes, they probably ran into some sort of wall there :/

Oh! Interesting...
I hope this time there'll really be an official announcement soon. I'd be curious to know what happened with Rhodes and the Taker of Cities, it seemed interesting and they were still showing previews of that on facebook late last year.

Either way I guess adding Corsica and Sardinia was the most requested map expansion so it makes sense. The Nuragic building models also definitely seem great to have for custom maps.

Curious about the dozen new Nuragic factions. Seems like a high faction density compared to the rest of the map.

It is! I just checked my old concept document for the Islands which divided them between 3 Nuragic groups, which were somewhat oversized but I wanted to have them be somewhat distinct from each other. Tho Admittedly there were Phoenicians/Greeks in my concepts that hogged all the good coastal towns.

If they squeezed in all the relevant sites and maybe added some in the inland there might be enough land to go around for 12 factions with 3 cities each. I went with a low city density similar to Lazio+Tuscany or Sicily and ended up with 25 Towns.

The store page does say 'dozens' of cities so I guess it would be 25 at a minimum... But I was thinking if indeed some of those should be reserved for non-Nuragic factions (Greek/Etruscan/Phoenician), also keeping in mind that Alalia is already an Etruscan faction in the Eagle King's invader/A New Home mode...

Though maybe there is an additional sandbox scenario like with the Etruria-only or Sicily-only scenarios. They both also had a slightly higher density than normal (they spliced in Velch and Sicani respectively). So maybe some of those Nuragic factions only appear there?

Totally agree with you there, no use having 12 identical Nuragic factions that get into mirrormatches the entire earlygame. Tho the abscense of Phoenicia-Promotion makes me think these will be greek and etruscan at best.

Judgeing from the description which does not really tease any new spotlight feature I'd assume so aswel, and not doing so would be very silly, Sicily is a great short campaign. Admittedly Eturia is a bit boring, but the islands at least have a reason to build boats.

PS: Wishlist-Squad, eh!

Haha yeah wishlist hype!

But I think maybe we just discovered this thing a bit early, since there is no official announcement yet and the store page says "more details coming soon". So maybe there might still be some other feature besides a map expansion... It looks like the reveal is kind of still under construction?

I wouldn't really mind if it's all Nuragic factions, we can (and will :p) mod others in anyway... Just, from a historical perspective, some of that land should be reserved for others assuming it's based on the same time period as the rest...

I guess we'll learn more soon. Very interesting though :)

What? no! we wouldnt do that :D

looks really early indeed, SGZ mentioned a hint at an announcement so I'm pumped. Wondering if he's seen this already.

The Isles were settled by Phoenicians and Greeks VERY early so I could Imagine a scenario playing out the colonization of the Isles but for a Grand campaign it'd be very wierd going before that.

Also Mega-kudos to you, ifitbl33ds!

It just dawned on me. I will need to research Paleo-Sardinian languages for my linguistically accurate city/general names mod *shudders*

The woes of entirely self-imposed modding duties :P

Good to see Longbow are still alive. I hope they have all those nice siege engines they talked about 2 yrs ago w this DLC otherwise i't wont be a lot of use to me. The stone buildings do look pretty. So mixed feelings about the whole thing.

I have to say, (rather embarrassingly) I had no idea there was such depth in Sardinian/Corsican culture. I really should have known better. At least we know if longbow gets a few things wrong, there are people in the community passionate and knowledgeable enough to fix/add it!

Yeah, so I have money and I'm happy to throw it at Longbow because they're an indie studio and I love the Hegemony "concept" but substance is important. I'm sure we will see more of that substance once more details are released. I would hate to think they have spent two years on just two islands (albeit with some pretty cool buildings.) C'mon Longbow, you're so much better than that!

yeh, the shift really is giving you the short end of the stick, i don't imagine Nuraghi assets being very universal and map expansion does not really give your stuff much benefit. :( I'm puped tho, I've already half a concept in my DB and map expansion was always something I wanted to do but was unable to(well or too lazy to do the whole vanilla map again, just to add two islands and probably get an inferior product -.-) and the new unit assets will be quite usefull for me.

I'm sure it will re energise modding but not sure it will add as much as I'd hoped. Time will tell.

I look forward to the new map and units. If they can add a few bug fixes into the main system I wouldn't mind that either.

A single faction with 2 or 3 cavalry units would be great
