Sycracuse, the largest settlement and most important, it lies on the south border of the island, with an impressive port and strong walls, this settlement is an essential part of the region

A marsh to the west of the island breaks up the mountain terrain and splits the greeks and phonecians

historically, it's the site of a major roman defeat at the hands of hannibal during the 2nd punic war, with some estimates putting roman losses in the 70,000s with a further 10,000 captured
