I must say in advance that I've searched for this help but couldn't find it before writing here.
Like many of you, I purchased the game through Steam.

First problem: as a flight simulator novice, where is the manual that explains in detail all the parameters for mapping the countless pedal, throttle, and joystick controls?

If the direct link don’t work go to il2 forums and look for the ‘manuals, tutorials, guides and tips’ forum.

There is a pinned topic by Jason_williams called il2 great battles manuals.

You’ll need to download a pdf.

also if you read the information provided for each plane in - game you can get a sense of what is required to control them. for most planes you only need a handful of controls mapped to your joystick to be able to get started flying.

No, it DOES work.

I can download it via a browser with a login token to the IL2 forums. I CANNOT download it if I am not logged into the forums.

If you are not logged into (or do not have an account on the IL2 forums) log in there and try it.
