IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Quickly looking behind you in VR
Any tips for doing this? Physically looking back to the extent regular desktop users can with a button press seems impossible without letting go of the joystick and spinning your chair around. And trying to check your six in general via banking and turning your head as far as you can is really cumbersome & you can't see much since you have almost no peripheral vision.

I looked into using the mirror, but it seemed very limited plus the germans don't have it for some reason in their fighters, didn't invent the mirror yet i guess.

How do you guys do it? Cheeky hotkey of some kind? Detachable neck?

I don't use VR but this app seems to be very popular with VR users on the official forum:

I don't think it is so much that your peripheral vision is artificially limited by VR but rather that it is exaggerated by snap views. VR has given me a new appreciation for fighter pilots 'keeping your head on a swivel' despite headrest armor and canopy frames and getting bashed around by G-forces. Even with my luxurious gaming chair and liberal use of the mini-map, I still come away sometimes feeling threadbare and stiff.
I'll try it a bit more to see if i can just "get good" and then if not i'll check out that app, cheers.

Yes, I play only in vr and the check your six app on the first reply is a must! It went from me only being able to play less than an hour because my neck hurt so bad, to being fully comfrtable no matter how long I play. It is awesome.

you want to be Immersed or not? Might as well not use VR.

Trick is to get used to it, become more flexible etc, thats the real challenge. Just like in reality.

For checking my six, I use the old Mk1-Neck.

As much as I'm all for realism, let us not forget why the majority of us play the sim....for fun.

Neck strain is not fun, so if this tool makes the sim more enjoyable, I say use it without any guilt.

As a head track user, I turn my head ~45 degrees and I can check my six with ease.

I know the day when I do make the leap to VR, this app will probably be one of the first things I download.

The amount of positive feedback the author received for the app from the VR community seems a testament to its quality and importance.

You should probably all give it a try by the sound of things....

This is what I do Boob Goblin. It's a bit of a work around but it's useful in a pinch. First you have to make sure your "Recenter View in VR" button is bound to something easily accessible. Then I turn my head to the left or right so I'm looking at my wing tip, then I recenter my view. Now with my view offcenter I can turn my head in the opposite direction and very comfortably gain a view of my 6. When I'm done checking, I bring my head back around to a comfortable forward position and recenter my view. It can be disorienting, but it'll save some neck muscles!

I believe there is an app called VR neck saver [gitlab.com] that you can use to "save your neck".
