There's a couple of campaigns but they're so heavily scripted they have nearly zero replayability.
There's a lot of community missions of varying quality.
Both of the above suffer from the same problem: The AI in Tank Crew is, quite honestly, some of the worst AI I've ever seen in a simulation game. Yes, it's that terrible. Panzer Elite, released in 1999, has better AI and better campaigns than Tank Crew.
I can't speak too much for the MP side. I've tried CO-OP a couple of times with friends but encountered various problems. We got it to work but it was merely "ok".. nothing to write home about.
There's some other QoL issues with the game as well.
On sale for like 50% off it might be worth it. I sure as hell would NOT pay release price for it.
I bought Tank Crew the first time it went to 50%. I've had my fun driving the tanks around on practice maps and shooting at AI targets. It scratches a VR itch. Otherwise, I personally can't recommend it as a single player game. It's too clunky and frustrating. If you plan to crew your vehicle with other human teammates and play it as intended on a multiplayer server, it could be worthwhile. I'll let you decide what you are willing to pay.
This is what i was exactly afraid of, and this is what simulation games fall in over and over:
They focus on being a beautiful eye candy, with nearly no real content at all and nothing to enjoy.
If they spend half that resources on the actual gameplay (remember: it is a game, not a musuem. If we want to see things we will go to the mesuem), it would explode.
But no, if its like this and will remain like this, then im not falling for this again, not after that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless DLC called Combined Arms in DCS.
Ahhh, no SP content? Thats unfortunate.
Is there a lot of content for it in online multiplayer? PvP or PvE
Third party: Easy Mission Generator - includes a version for Tank Crew: https://sites.google.com/view/il2-great-battles-emg/home

What I did say is that single player is "clunky and frustrating." Within your vehicle, each crewman has specific roles. As the single player you can jump from compartment to compartment and assume any role, but 1) if you are the driver you can't fire the main gun 2) if you are the gunner you can't drive the tank 3) if you are the commander you can drive the tank and issue orders but you can't operate the main gun. As the commander you can put your crew on autopilot of sorts, but my experience is you still have to give your driver waypoints or tell your gunner to stop targeting/shooting. This is done through a command menu with sub-menus. It gets even more complicated when you are commanding your platoon, it's like herding cats. Meanwhile, enemy AI has Sniper-Vision and can range you from behind a hill so there isn't really any opportunity for using cover to make surprise flanking movements -- it's just a straight-out slugfest most of the time. Fortunately the enemy AI follows set courses when moving and can be really dumb at times. I've chased down tank columns traveling on roads and picked them off from behind.
Kalnaren speaks truth when he tells you the AI in Panzer Elite is better. And if you're looking for a tank game similar to War Thunder, this isn't it. I've had more fun with the silly tank campaign in Battlefield 1 and the tank missions in Call of Duty than I've had playing Tank Crew. As I said, for me TC's saving grace is that it makes for an interesting VR experience.
The Pat Wilson Campaign Generator for IL-2 is a popular third-party campaign generator because it does some things better than the default career generator, and things that the default does not. Here's a thread about the improbability of incorporating Tank Crew into PWCG: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/61420-pwcg-and-tank-crew/. Things may have changed since (the AAA truck is now in PWCG) but I'm not seeing Tank Crew in the PWCG change log. I've used the PWCG for Flying Circus and I like it a lot but I've stuck with the default career system for the WWII air combat because it easier to just stay inside the game and click a button for the next mission.
Edit: Now you can drive tanks in PWCG. See here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/19801-pwcg-1301-im-not-dead-yet/?do=findComment&comment=1101028
