IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

I got sturmovik battle of normandy but missions always the same?
Hi guys, I got the game with said dlc in title but all missions seem to be "go and intercept bombers and go back to airport" it becomes a little stale at the 3rd one, you dont even need to kill any bomber as just getting to them seems to trigger a completion on the objective, although I stay and fight anyway. Is there anything to the pilot story besides this?

Luftwaffe Fw 190? Yes, not much variety. After a few weeks you'll relocate inland and then every mission will be ground attack at the Allied beachhead.

damn lol what other missions might be fun?

Try playing as Allied? Attacking V-1 sites is kind of fun.

Kuban is far better if you want to fly for the Luftwaffe; and Bodenplatte (with Normandy's aircraft) is better than Normandy. The highpoint of Battle of Normandy is seeing the D-Day invasion. Otherwise the career missions feel like an uninspired attempt to turn a multiplayer expansion pack into a credible single-player game. That's just my opinion of course. I know the team put a lot of effort into new features for example the V-1 intercept missions.

The Kuban one has different types of missions? What can I expect from that expansion?

The missions are of a similar variety to Stalingrad. Fighters: escort bombers; free hunts; intercept recon aircraft; guard river crossings; intercept attackers. Some decent sized dogfights at times. Bombers: He-111, Ju-88 (from Battle of Moscow) and Ju-87 for the Luftwaffe. There is a career option for the HS-129 if you own it. The scenery is the best in the series IMO -- it has coasts, plains, and mountains.

Battle of Kuban comes with one scripted campaign, "Sea Dragons." I've also really enjoyed the paid "Steel Birds" and "Achtung Spitfire!!" scripted campaigns. There is a spreadsheet of scripted campaigns, most of them free, available here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/62274-list-of-current-scripted-campaigns/

A sample of the scenery as it is seen in a quick mission against shipping:

The Normandy Luftwaffe fighter careers also feature attacks on vehicle convoys and escort for fighter-bombers after the invasion begins.

I appreciate your work LukeFF, and I don't mean to come off as overly negative about the Normandy career. I suppose my current frustration, flying the Fw190A because it was the only fighter available when I began the campaign, is that currently every mission involves pushing through a phalanx of Spitfires along the entire length of the Allied beachhead, to strafe or rocket a vehicle column at the far end, only to have more Spitfires immediately arrive and chase me for 20 minutes back to my base. Maybe I just need to transfer to another unit.

I tried a BON Typhoon career a few months ago : yes, a lot of missions where you are supposed to attack V1 sites, but once over the target area, after a loooooong flight just to get there : no targets are to be found. Nada. Zip. Sweet nothing, and the other pilots in your squadron end up circling over the so-called target area endlessly...Mission after mission ... Not even some AAA to dance with. So I eventually gave up on that career and switched to a BOM IL2 career .... Much more eventful, diversified and fun, and the targets are where they are supposed to be.

No worries. :) Sounds like you're experiencing what the Germans did in the summer of 1944. :D

That issue was fixed a few updates back.

Lots of commute simulation. The Bodenplatte battle is a LOT of boring flying to the target or AO, maybe a couple of minutes dogfighting, or if it's ground attack, 30 seconds of bombs, rockets and or cannons, then another 30 minutes fly back. Normandy, with the flight across the wide part of the Channel, is considerably worse, with only a badly rendered sea to view along with the clouds. And with only 8x speed increase, this gets very old quite fast. Some of the work done by players is fantastic, but almost everything provided by 1C is like this.
By the way, DCS and War Thunder get the environment much much better. Proper whitecaps, trees that don't look like a slightly enhanced billboard and roads and buildings that look like more than painted cubes.

Yeah I also got War thunder and DCS but wanted to give IL a try. How do I play player made missions?

Go to your main folder and look inside the Data folder for Missions folder. You should be able drop the missions (unzipped) into the folder.
