IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

How Much Content Is In The Base Game?
I'm not a fan of buying DLC, unless I really enjoy the game. Does the base game have enough content to be enjoyable or does it feel very barebones? Does it have more than two plans, or four missions and options? I'm just looking for an arcade/sim and I know IL-2 is one of the best, but not looking to break the bank.

The "Great battles" series isnt a traditional game with dlc. It comes in modules.

The Normandy module has certain planes, the Bodenplatte module has other ones.

The "base game," Battle of Stalingrad, has eight flyable aircraft (four for Germany, four for the Soviet Union), seasonal maps for the Stalingrad front, and a few smaller maps designed for online battles. The career mode generates daily missions for the nationality you create a pilot for; and you can switch between bomber and fighter squadrons. More info is here: https://il2sturmovik.com/about/

Multiplayer will be limited for you if you only have Battle of Stalingrad but it is possible.

I believe Battle of Stalingrad includes the two demo tanks you can operate.

Baesd on this, IL21946 would be the best. Then IL2GB. DCS is the worst.

Yeah DCS was my first thought of bad, in that it has like two free aircraft followed by loads of DLC. I do remember 1946 being fun, it's just a little old at this point.

I just saw a YouTube video explaining it, makes more sense now with all the DLC.

Truthfully you get hooked with the series of games and too truly enjoy all the benefits of the game youll have too get everything-all dlcs, which added up is a large chunk of money, but if bought wisely ie: in the sales is not too bad, this is how ive done it,i play tanks online, which is a thriving community on Finnish virtual pilots, there are others but that is the best, and i fly on the game campaigns.

Battle of Stalingrad and 1946 share a similar philosophy for game design, though I can barely stand to play 1946 anymore because of its aged graphics engine. VR saved air combat simming for me.

DCS is an expensive button pusher's wet dream. I enjoy flying the WWII aircraft I paid dearly for, on the maps I paid dearly for, but unless you're willing to buy scripted campaigns or build your own missions there isn't much for the single player to do except pattern work or shoot up random trains.

IL-2 Cliffs of Dover - Blitz Edition is essentially the middle ground between DCS and Battle of Stalingrad. It has an extensive collection of flyable aircraft with clickable cockpits, and also some scripted campaigns included. The graphics are approximately similar to Battle of Stalingrad's. If you're looking for a sim that balances quantity and quality it may be worth your time looking into. Personally it is my least favorite of the IL-2 franchise titles and I don't even have it installed on my PC right now.

OP, here is a useful link to break down what each modules includes:

Also, you can download Pat Wilsons Campaign Generator (PWCG) for free, it's a very nice little standalone program that generates missions to fly in game and records the results. I thoroughly enjoy it. You can create several Pilots flying different aircraft in the different units during the campaign. I actually set up my father, brother, and brother and law as pilots I fly, and gave each one a bio and take turns flying them during the campaign. It has a lot of options on how easy or hard you can make the campaign.
