Any good mod/mods to improve the campaign/pilot career mode?

You'll have to select Enable Mods in your game settings.

Some mods are hosted by the forum and require you have an account to download files. Most mods are hosted off-site.

The common advice is to use the JSGME mods manager. I prefer to add files directly to my game folder.

When the mods actually decide to work and not break the game

Again when these mods actually work and don't break the damn game, pretty much gave up trying.

Many of the older mods don't work anymore because of version changes to the game. Some will throw error codes and freeze up the game because files don't match. For example, the old version of Weapons Mod with many ammunition types got smoked by the October 2021 update; that update also made the early tracer mods obsolete including the wobbly tracers. I understand the torpedo mod no longer creates damage.

I recommend to avoid any mods for clouds, rain, sun, haze etc. because of the new Sky Dome changed how the environment is rendered. I've also heard that some of the map re-textures don't work anymore. The 4K cockpit repaints are unnecessary because Oyster_Kai's work has been officially added into the game by developer updates.

I personally use the mods I posted above. They work. I don't use JSGME; I unzip or unpack each mod to my desktop and then copy the content to the corresponding folders in my "IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad" Data folder. That's just how I prefer to mod. I like knowing what ingredients are in the soup and adjusting the recipe to suit my tastes.

So don't use JGSME at all alright got that part, but I notice you still have the weapons mod in your list, is that one worth getting or should I avoid it alltogether?

It has been reduced to only the M2 .50 and it makes the ammunition more powerful.
