ending the mission

ok, so i complete the mission and i get a message saying objectives completed but the option to leave it to cancel mission? Do i have to land the end of every mission please?

No, as long as you quit the mission over your territory, it's fine. If you leave the mission while still flying over enemy territory, you will be considered as captured and your career will be over... I made that mistake on a few occasions in the beginning, when I was familiarizing myself with the game.

No, it is a successful mission once you leave enemy territory
