I'm also thinking , monster glider tugs, pulling gliders, too!
- AI only and based on the current twin engine bombers, meaning not all gun positions are manned at all times.
- Motors would be simplified hit boxes ala IL-2: 1946, or a hybrid of two engines + two hit boxes.
- Heavies would always be airborne at a higher altitude, with assumption their home base is off the map.
- Heavies would be programmed to fly level and on course in corridors to and from target.
Although IL-2 is designed to be a tactical sim not strategic, this could open up a little variety with high altitude fighter escort vs intercept missions. There were also some missions in older sims like Jane's WWII Fighters where the tactical fighters had to go in ahead of a strategic attack and kill the Flak-88s minutes before Allied high altitude bombing commenced.
Personally I'd rather see a CATF[www.historynet.com] / CBI expansion with flyable B-25s ... but that is a different discussion.
It's only when a bomber falls out of formation that it becomes active for itself and it's own AI takes over.
That sim had pretty much the actual real number of luftwaffe bombers and fighters airborne - and damn it really put the 'few' into perspective.
