IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

I can't do this, it's too hard.
I can't do this, as soon as I turn the plane just goes spinning and into a nose dive. I can't even beat the lamest plane on novice in 1 on 1 dog fight while flying an me109. Is flying seriously this hard? I bank the plane and pull on the stick and turns for a moment then the plane goes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuts and and I can't stablize it back up. Realism is on normal. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

It is quite difficult when you first start out, but like anything, all you need is practice. Make sure when turning or climbing, be smooth and soft with your controlling as the planes are quite sensitive. If it helps, go into your settings and set all your axes to 100% sensitivity. Also, make test out different noise filter settings for your joystick.

I guess I'll have too, just gotta learn to fly first. I have the added challange of virtual reality, VR is one of the reason I picked this up. Luckily I have a flight stick from the space sims, I have no idea how this would be played with out one.

Adjusting the sensitivity will deffinatly help you out. When I first started out I had to fiddle with the three major controll sensitiviteis, pitch, yaw and roll, for about 45 minutes before things started feeling right. Keeping your controll movments small and precise will also help. Use just as much stick as it takes to get the plane in the right orientation and no more. This will not only keep your plane from fliping out on you, it will also help you conserve energy in fights; I know that may seem to be a bit beyond where you are now but starting good habits early helps.

Maintain speed and be gentle on stick.
No speed=stall

If you prefeer turn fighting, try out yak. But 109 is also good turner just maintain speed.

Another thing that will help is concentrating on coordinated truns. When in a turn keep an eye on on trun-and-bank indicator and keep the ball centered. This might no prevent a spin but it will delay the onset and reduce the severity of the spin, not to mention it will help you maintain energy through the turn.

Every plane is unique and takes practice to know how to fly them properly. Keep trying.

Well, I've downed my first plane and did my first take off so far :) . I'm slowly getting gentler on the stick and figuring it out. I can't land, it just won't go slow enough and/or I just bounce of the ground. Thanks for the tips ! I'm trying to stick to the bf 109, simply just by fimiliarity picked it first as an infmous plane. I didn't see any spitfires or mustangs on there. It's still a little over-whelming, I figured I'd be doing the campaign by now lol thanks guys. How to use rudders is still beyond me.

Good man .Enjoy the learning process , its a tough sim, hard to learn difficult to master . check out the air combat tutorials and chucks aircraft guide, if you want to get good in the fastest possible way then fight on the berloga dual n dogfight server

:steamhappy:

Also, when you land, make sure it's on all three wheels - kinda the opposite of what I did at the start.

Oh, and this is for you and everyone else; there's this really great android app called "IL2 Tactical Map" where you can plan your flights, mark targets, map routes, and see all the information on all the different aircraft. It's a really nifty tool, especially when you eventually start flying without the HUD, or in multiplayer :steamhappy:

When your airplane goes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because you pulled back on the stick your airplane is going into a stall. Don't pull back so hard. You will know when the airplane starts to stall by that noise you hear before it goes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

For shooting down enemy airplanes on novice just out turn them and don't stall your airplane. You hear that noise right before your airplane goes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Just ease back up on the stick. Then just keep turning and by turn 2 or three you will be on the tail of the enemy airplane.
Dont forget the new FM will be coming in the next few patches.

The current one is fine as long as you are gentle with your stick.

Some planes do stall and spin more than others.

If you are a Russian flyer, I recommened the Yak Series.1 or 1b they're both great for new flyers.

The type i16 rocks too.
