Do note if you want to buy on steam you need to get Stalingrad because the way steam works requires there to be a base game with DLC. And since Stalingrad is the first to release its the one that needs to be bought first. I personally find this a bit BS since theoretically they could come up with a free version with no content where you buy the rest individually, but Since steam takes a percentage of their profits I don't blame them for not doing anything special for steam.
If you buy off of their website you can get any game you want individually. So if you don't want Stalingrad i recommend doing that.
So if you want to really choose, base your decision off of which planes you like more. Or which battle in history interests you the most.

the fire and smoke however do look better.
Will definately be picking it up once they come out with VR support now that they have gotten TOBRUK released
Stalingrad is the best overall value, and arguably has the most balanced plane set. Kuban has the 'prettiest' map; Bodenplatte has the largest map and its plane set is most recognizable to westerners. Moscow adds depth the series but I think it works best as an expansion.
Everybody says stay away from Flying Circus but I picked it up the other night and I'm having an absolute blast with it in VR.
VR is a game changer, and worth the extra price, but they did drop the ball in terms of value for Flying circus. Main issue being a lack of a career and given that this is a 95% single player playerbase that is near inexcusable. IF they had included that it would be perfectly fine. But as of now you have to use 3rd party tools for a campaign which requires you to alt tab out of the game to get new missions.
Back in the day there was a WWI mod for "Fighter Squadron: Screamin' Demons Over Europe." I ordered a copy of by-then defunct SDOE, downloaded all of the mod packs on dial-up modem and waited patiently for the CD to arrive. Once everything was installed I quickly lost interest. I may have given "Over Flanders Field" for CFS-3 a similar cursory look but it certainly wasn't anything that stayed on my hard drive. All that is to say WWI flight sims traditionally haven't been my thing.
The terrain in CLoD is way better than anything the BoX Digital Nature Engine could ever render. So agreed on that end.
