IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Clickable cockpits in the game.
Being a real-world pilot myself, it is of my opinion that at some point, not today, not..., not during Battle of Normandy development, not next year, but at some point, clickable cockpits should be added to IL-2 Great Battles.

I mean, in games like FSX/P3D, X-Plane, DCS, Cliffs of Dover, etc. it's just an OPTION to click things with the mouse, it doesn't mean that you automatically have to start using the mouse to lower flaps, undercarriage, etc. If you want to still use the keyboard, that's totally fine, there's nothing preventing you from still using it.

In games with clickable cockpits, I don't always use the mouse; sometimes I turn off the engine using the keyboard, sometimes I manually turn off the engine. Same goes with things like flaps, undercarriage, lights, etc.

I dunno, in this modern age of flight simulators, a flight sim without/sans clickable cockpits is mainly for these low fidelity sims or older games like IL-2 1946, War Thunder, etc. NOT a modern, high fidelity game like IL-2 Great Battles. They would be a good addition to game and that is why I feel that they at some point should get added, obviously not in 1 go, but in stages like with 4K skins and what they want to do with Flying Circus. But as previously stated, in games with clickable cockpits if you don't want to use the mouse and want to use the keyboard, that's totally fine.

As a side note, I do have this game, just not on Steam.

P.S. Anyone who feels that a clickable cockpit would only merit for engine startup and management has a VERY SIMPLISTIC understanding of cockpits.

That's my opinion.

id like a simplistic click pit.

i/we dont initially need the underlying systems and their under the hood complexities rather just mimic existing keybinds.

How it is in VR??

Nice idea. But here's my 2 cents: IIRC,the only "stimulator: I've flown that offered offered clickable switches and trim wheels was my RealAir Spitfire Mk XIV that was compatible with MS 2004 Flight Simulator. If I chose to, I could do almost everything with the mouse from startup to shutdown. BUT I had to take my eye off my view of the world to position the cursor. That was distracting and not like my own (former and very simple) cockpit experience of using peripheral vision to position my hand on a switch. As you know, experienced pilots don't even have to look down at a simple panel because they know the switch by feel. Because of this issue, even with the clickable option, I would prefer to just put everything on automatic and fly. Of course it might be different with newer TrakIr and VR systems.
BTW, that Spit was a sweet plane to fly but it only worked with Win XP. When I next upgrade my PC, I'm gonna get me a guy who knows games and ask him to make it work with the current or next Windows system. Yessiree.

+1

As I am unable to fly for real during the lockdown I am certainly racking up the hours in IL2 (sadly I cant put them in my logbook :-() I would love a full clickable pit like DCS and would play DCS for that reason except for the framerate issues in VR and the terrible damage model and the spotting issues and the lack of multiplayer for piston aircraft so IL2 wins it for me, would really like the option to have more control over the systems though even if it was something that could be bypassed by just pressing "E" On the plus side most of the important controls are bindable depending on the plane but I would love the option to for example turn off the fuel for an emergency landing or do a mag check.

Highly agree with this.

Yep I'm agree clickable cockpits would be so great

I respect your opinion but must disagree.
Clickable functionality is just how you interact with the sim, it does not make a sim "high fidelity". Modeling the systems accurately and having them affect the flight simulation makes a high fidelity sim.

I am ok with the level of simulation we have now and I prefer they devote their resources to things like fuel mgmt and droptanks (which will come with BoN).

Clicky pits would be nice but I'd take improvements to engine modeling and the ability to do an actual startup sequence first.

Been beaten around since release and doubt they will do anything about it. (Typical of this dev)

Wold be nice but sigh....................

Cliffs of Dover is the best you will get my friend.

Speaking of Cliffs of Dover I also miss that feature where cockpits were "alive", the needles bouncing around on the instruments are such a nice QoL feature.

it becomes easy with practice.

it just needs to emulate key/button presses so one has the choice.

as above noted, it doesnt have to fully moddled with subsystems. a creative licence can be taken as like other aspects of the sim.

its not an essential addition, rather it would be nice.

Agree

Agree...
but the biggest problem is the small dev team, we want many features, there are always higher priority things and pressure from new contents developement.
MONEY can really solve many things, I hope the dev team can be expand.

I totally agree with clickable cockpits ! U all know how much commands we have to perform during flight and mixing clickable cockpits with some key bindings would be ideal ! Its difficult to remenber every key binding for lights, radio frequencies, locking tail wheel, parking break, wheels break, left and righ wheels break l, elevator trim up and down, aileron trim up down .... u see ? And the list goes on ...

Get VoiceAttack. Set up a profile to speak commands for lights and tail wheel and stuff. It works. It even works for moving radiator controls, cowl flaps, RPM lever, etc. if you are clever about it. Your trim and brakes can be mapped to your NumPad.

Or try DCS World War II aircraft in combat. Practically everything can be controlled by a mouse. Unfortunately, looking down and clicking a trim wheel with a cursor takes longer than doing it by feel in real life. Fine for MSFS, terrible for combat. Attention diverted has deadly repercussions. You end up as tiny pits of aluminum and bone scattered through a forest somewhere. It's one reason I'm not a fan of IL-2 Cliffs of Dover's click-pits.
