Shimmering in VR
Hey. Im pretty new to VR in this game and I seem to have a problem with the amount of shimmering im getting in VR. Is there a specific control setting that raises or lowers this.? Dont get me wrong its not unplayable because of it, but it is distracting. I havent played the game since the last major update and I dont remember it being a problem beforehand. Thanks in advance for any answers. Cheers.

What pc setup do you have and what settings do you use?
You migh wanna look on official il2 forum in VR section for some advices and setup tutorials.

Shimmering is caused by 'sharpen'. Switch it off then no more shimmering. Further reduction by using anit-aliasing but that costs a lot of performance.

Seen this Sharpen reply all over the net. Yes but then you cant see the instruments well or find planes as well... VR problem is from 2017 forum threads. Rig is not a problem. IL is they can't fix it or don't want to. Try War Thunder for free and VR works in less than 1 min with all settings on MAX. War thunder is an arcadish flight sim at best but VR works perfectly there. It took me 3 days of forum reading to get VR to a non-stuttering shimmering form but the graphics are ♥♥♥♥ with this kind of setting. I`m hoping when I go from oculus to VALVE or PIMAX 8k it will work but reading the forums It probably will still be stuttering, shimmering or blurry VR experience. Also DCS works perfectly so no the rig is usually not the problem..... I`m an angry customer who actually loves the game... and also want to return it for one fact, VR doesn't work.
weird. works fine for me.

Same for me and a friend too but only with recent update. For some reason post update the VR sucks, like all AA and filtering is turned off now. Both me and a friend exactly the same experience this evening.

entered game ready for our normal fun and test this new update but the damn quality has just took a nose dive. Both on nVidia rigs with valve index. I am using 2080Ti, friend a 1080Ti.

I cannot say i share the same experience as you. Funny enough for whatever reason war thunder just doesn't work well in vr for me. I have gotten crashes to desktop and wierd micro stutters and all kinds of wierd things where the proportions are way off visually ex your hands are abotu 1 foot around and the cockpit and instruments look way too big. or the opposite where it seems like i am a giant stuffed in with my fligh stick being the thickness of a pencil in literally the same match but with different planes. Il2 seems to work flawless for me and i haven't experienced the shimmering (well perfectly until the most recent patch which broke AMD systems though the devs are aware and have contacted AMD)

I think it a lot of things such as headset, software, and hardware configuration can effect this for a variety of games. The game seemed to perform not as well with WMR headsets, but with Valve and occulus headsets performs much better. Right now the various anti aliasing methods are producing different results on different cards with ssao causing problems for some and fixing problems for others. Right now the most recent update has compatability issues with AMD which is linked to the anti-aliasing method. Anyway sorry you were having issues.
