IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Simply centering the VR view is impossible (fixed, kinda)
Update: All is good again. Sorry for the rant.

This game is not a VR game. It is a broken VR game. Spent almost 2 full hours simply trying to center the VR view. It centers, in the WRONG place. Im sitting so far left I look like a passenger. I hit AP and watched him have fun while I sit and STEAMed having to return yet another broken game.

I waited almost 2 years fo rVR to mature so I didnt have to play these imbecilic games again. I feel like its Falcon 3 trying to get 512k of conventional memory all over again.

have you mapped the centre VR key?

is your position correct in 2d?
Airborne Trooper Mar 21, 2019 @ 7:47am
Yes I have mapped the centering key and it does center my pilot. Just in the wrong spot. Far to the right of the cockpit. Like Im in a BF109 or something. The first few seconds all was good then it simply drifted over and Ive never been able to get it back to the middle. Ive went so far as to reinstall both WMR and SteamVR.

What a horrible pita VR has turned out to be. As great as it is to play in VR it is full of BUGS. Its almost like game devs like DCS and this one are trying to kill VR or something.

well, its fine for me and many others. However I only "know" Rift and Vive users. I cant comment on your kit.

If you are having similar issues in both this and DCS perhaps there lies an issue closer related to your set up?

I wonder if maby u have the basic view setting centered in whatever vr headset u use to start out with?

I got this issue when I messed around in the He-111, don't remember what I did but suddently I was litellery sitting on Hans's leg, I don't know how it happened or why but I reinstalled my game a tiny bit later and now it's fine again. In detail my view would drift over to Hans leg and stay there, if I went to outside view and back it centered at the seat but started dritfting again, basically, also the center VR view key diden't help me at all, it just corrected wherever I was looking.

As somebody who is still awaiting a good tracking solution I would prefer if the developers somehow let us still use the controls to move the pilot around outside of VR inside of VR, I guess it's a VR limitation considering most other VR title forces you to use some tracking to position yourself, well, yet to try SteamVR home with a controller I suppose.

Also no offence or anything but to me it seems this game isen't too focused on VR, meaning they did implement it but they may or may not have tested it lately, especially on newer HMD's, I have more problems in the rendering pipeline that I've dealt with since it only breaks half of the experience which is ground forces not rendering 90 degrees outside of your view from the center, like it's still recognizing you on a monitor or something. Basically meaning it was never a native VR game and we can't expect the exact qualities from a dedicated VR game.

Otherwise it works great for me and VR really adds to the experience in my opinion, not as much as I expected from VR, but kind of relaxing nonetheless.

Sounds like the same thing. Reinstalling the game is going to take another 3 hours. I have teh steam only version.

I went form triples and was blown away by VR. I realize its limitations but but I didnt think it was still this far behind after so many years of me waiting patiently.

I suppose it's up to deleting config files then and hoping for the best, I'm not too well versed in that so might wanna try to look up what kind of config files to delete, should just be all the in-game settings related one and then do a integrity check on Steam I got Steam aswell but it's linked to my account over on their website, takes me 3 hours to DL GTA V, thankfully I got a unlimited price plan that dosen't increase, was thinking if you got that you could give it a shot?

In VR move your IRL head over to the desired position where you're sitting in the cockpit normally, then hit F10 on your keyboard to set that as your default position. Now sit normally in your chair and hit the center VR view button.

Never run into an issue with this. VR is not broken in this title. It up there with Elite Dangerous as the poster child for how to do VR flight sims right.

Ill give the F10 thing a try, thanks!

I don't know your setup but I have a Vive and found that my view is slightly off every time I center. My assumption is that it's due to the angle of the lighthouse. I'm maybe a foot or two in front of it and it's about 4 feet to my left, and another 4 or so feet higher than I am. Hell the rear one could be doing most of the work for all I know. Anyway, your environment could be a factor.

Haven't tried WMR headsets, but if you are I could imagine that facing the screen may cause an issue. Try turning it off. Seems to me that if the camera is seeing what's on the screen it could mess with the tracking. Even if it's off the reflective surface may not work well with it. No idea, just throwing out possible issues.

Unless you solved it yet I found out that everytime I change anything in the Camera section of settings my view "drifts" a tiny distance to where I'm looking, pressing the reset interface under Game in the User Profile section solved it for me, you could try that.

OK, Thanks for the heads up! I will try. running out of things. I hate to return a game I paid $17 for though, lol.

make sure your room is properly lit up...i sometimes have issues similar to this when my room isn't well lit as the vr tracking starts to drift. you also try messing around in the settings as you want to have your settings so that you CAN stick your head through the window and pannels rather than stopping you as when you look behind you, your head hitting the glass can throw your view off. sorry your game isn't working properly...have had relativly few problems myself

I ended up formatting my drive and reinstalling Win10. It had been awhile and needed it anyway with all the new VR stuff I was installing willynilly. IL2 Bos seems to work great again. I still get some minor drift but now I can simply move my body in the opposite direction and VR recenter to get myself situated in the planes cockpit.

Im very pleased with IL2 BoS so far. Far superior to my experience with DCS. Every single aspect of setup was easier and the result was far superior in VR. In DCS all setting low Im still well above the 11.2 in the Steam VR setting meter. In IL2 BoS Im able to use much higher settings and remain well below 11.2 giving me the full 90fps VR experience with no reprojection.
