The AI in this game is bad and really annoying at times. If you want an actual challenge then go on multiplayer servers.
I'm still relatively new to the game and feel like I'll get my butt handed to me in no time in multi
AI sees all.
If you want a credibly realistic opponent the bots won't give it to you. Bots are good trainers though, but not for dogfighting. If you want to learn how to dodge well aimed fire, bots got your back. They are very good shots. If you want to learn to hit a hard-turning target, bots got your back. They are very good at riding the bleeding edge of a plane's turning capabilities. But if you want anything that isn't those things...
If you want to have a good time in MP your best bet is to find someone to play with. To be quite blunt, team work is OP as ♥♥♥♥, and even two mildly competent players can beat the best if they work together well enough. The MP environment is rough for a newcomer. That is just the way it is. But if you can stick it out and analyze your behavior and mistakes, the repeated blows to the head will teach you what you are doing wrong and how to go about avoiding those actions. If you work with someone who knows better you might be able to avoid some of those blows to the head.
If you want, hit me up, I'll fly with you. Though I tend to play the Soviet side, the team stacking online being what it is I can't bring myself to play German most of the time.
Last game, I was escorting bombers. As soon as we cross the border, enemy fighters (Yak-1) attack our fighters, leaving our bombers untouched. As our bombers continue their mission, I have 5 fighters chasing me deep over our territory. The AI Yak-1 seem to have overpowered engines with unlimited gun ammo. Not realistic at all. It was on difficult level. Almost impossible, if possible, to energy fight with AI. It deserves serious modifications because it highly lowers the value of the game.
Gladly, in a few days Ill be back home and try again.
