For what it is worth the auto ban script they have in place on Wings is there for a good reason. People would come into the server, jump in a plane as a gunner, and shoot the tail of the plane off. People were understandably pissed about this so the admin team set about fixing it. They just went stupid overboard with the fix and aren't intrested in listening to anyone who dissagrees with them on that. I tried convincing them that a warning for the first FF insident would be better but they seem to prefer it this way. Maybe they never shoot the wrong plane by mistake or miss the tailing guy and hit a freindly, I don't know; though I rather suspect it has more to do with their being able to unban themselves.
You might find the Knights of the Air server a better alternative to Wings, though it is currently suffering from some tech issues that are being worked out. The missions are set up simmilarly to those of Wings, though they offer a lot more space between the front line and the spawn points. This results in a bit longer transit time to the front, which can be a little tedious in the slower planes, but the way it makes fights decisive more than makes up for it in my opinion. The admin team for the server is active and they enforce their rules with a more or less even hand. The other principal differance is you get more fredom to set up your plane the way you want, no silly locking of mirrors or bombs, and the position marker on the map is disabled. Having to navigate by map, landmark and compass is a bit of a chalange at first but becomes rather easy once you learn the trick fo it.
A great point here that you made was that the administrator has been banned from the game's official forums, that's a tell all.
We need some competition for them, maybe I should start a server, I have a decent PC I could use, how exactly does one go about starting one?
Yeah, I like Knights, but they don't seem to be as popular for whatever reason, maybe those tech issues you mentioned.
Knights I don't think is as popular because it's more of a veteran server, people become so dependant with GPS on the map that they have no clue how to navigate the terrain.
If you want to start a server go for it but be ready for A LOT of work. Can't exactly seed in this game to get the server pop up.
There should be offical servers. anyways.
Honestly, I prefer the actual server system, so anyone can make a server with their rules.
I wouldn't hurt some servers by 1C ... but it's not a problem not having them
Obviously IDing is more of an issue with Boom and Zoom than Burn and Turn (which it sounds like you are referring to)
Maybe it's just me, but I find it very difficult in VR (maybe if you have a VIVE PRO it's easier, not sure) to ID and bc you lose that initiative it's even worse.
Plus, that doesn't change the unreasonably run argument anyway, but there is my response to that.
As for the Knights server, that's definitely a good one, it came back online right around the time I wrote this and it's been pretty well populated. Thanks for that recommendation.
Fun game!
