IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Enemies on career!?
Seriously you gonna make the AI fly through enemy lines and AA defenses for over 400km just to get a kill on one light plane (me)? how realistic is that? One crashed by the way and the other doesn't even know if he can go back to his OWN airfield... wow.
I flew over 400km to get back to my airfield with a damaged wing, just to get shot down by 2 Yak following me for over 30 minutes, should I laugh or rage quit?

Until AI get's further improvements i suggest dragging them over friendly AA at the front or airfield, they should take care of them.

I'll try that next time, hopefully the AI gets better.

Good luck with that. AAA is really weird, they can snipe you with 1 hit on 4000m but when you drag enemy and fly as close to the ground as possible, friendly aaa will take forever to shoot one enemy down even tho they are so low. Also enemy AI does not seem to care that he fights over airfield full of aaa shooting at him. AI is true masterpiece in this game. Untill they fix it, i see no reason to play this game anymore.

There is a lot of complains about AI so i guess they will do something about it, lots of people said they wont buy any new expansion if things wont get better. It's worst if you play as ground attacker, especially in hs129. Most of your flight dies, enemy spam sky, if you have cover they just target one enemy and forget about you.. there is no such thing as fighter sweep to make ground attackers life easier. You just fly into always protected by enemy sky...

Just play scripted campaigns, i think it's the best and only choice for single player fans so far.

There you go again pissing off Ivan. If you piss of Ivan than he will follow you until he destroys you even if it means his death. Seriously though, I noticed this odd behavior with the AI. Once they make you a target they follow you until their plane is destroyed or runs out of fuel.

As Adler said, whole parts of the game namely ground attack planes and bombers are simply not playable in carreer as it stands. Which is clearly a shame considering the cost of premium aircrafts like he129 and the effort put into building nice hq/briefing screens.

I also second the idea of playing scripted campaigns instead as they "hide" the problems.

Fighter carreer works somewhat better as long as you dont need to count on your teamates, then they just run in circle and smack the ground...

I was on the merge of buying flying circus and tank crew (i own all the rest) but i will hold off until the devs take a serious step about adding an actual AI to this game.

I know what you mean, I've been chased by numerous planes back to base, which is in my mind, quite fun, but I do realize this can be very much the opposite, as in your case. I enjoy the Career mode, and though it certainly needs more spit and polish, I come to IL-2 for it.

After completing hundreds of successful missions, I've found that a few can be unrelentingly cruel.

For example, getting blasted out of the sky with sniper-like precision by astute flak assassins while having traveled deep into enemy territory for 45 minutes, well, this has left an indelible mark on how I play, especially Escort Bomber missions. When I begin seeing puffs of smoke close by I hold my breath, begin swerving with even more enthusuasm, and then change altitude, all with the hope I'll not run out of oxygen before its over. I don't stay in formation. I tried and died way too many times doing that. If you're playing on Ironman this can be incredibly stressful.

I hope that you'll not let this bad experience alter your possible enjoyment of other missions, and the Career mode, in general. :-)

Might be a stupid question, but is the AI the same in all IL-2 games?
If I buy Battle of Kuban will the AI in career act the same?

What I do is fly low and fast over a friendly airfield, pull on the stick but not too much you don't want to bleed off too much speed. Maintain the climb and don't roll over until you've hit the apex of the loop and you're about to stall.

Works best with some distance between you and enemy, but the idea is you pull them up into a stall right over the airfield if you timed it right. The down side to this is it can expose you to HEAVY friendly fire. I've been hit by flak a few times, nothing immediately devastating but it did injure the pilot pretty good.

If it doesn't get shot down chances are it still received some good hits to affect the airframe, performance etc.

No it's not! This guy has no idea what he is talking about. AI in 1946 or CloD is way better, not pefect but way better than BoX. And soon CloD will get big update that should fix a of AI problems.

Most visible diffence is when you fight enemy fighters, they actually try to avoid fire, they roll, fly up and down doing all kinds of things. In box you fly in circles, that's entire brain of AI in BoX, fly in circles forever and never return to base. In CloD fights are intense but short, enemy and your allies will run away at some point, no one will chase you back to back across a channel.

Edit: unless you meant expansion for stalingrad. Because it's still the same game. Kuban, Moscow etc. you just get more content but everything else like AI, damage model etc. is shared for all BoX titles.
