If you go to 1C's web store, however, you can purchase any of the modules as a standalone and play it. When you download any of the modules, you get all of the data for all the other modules too, even if you don't own them; you just don't have permission to play any particular aircraft until you have bought it.
I'm assuming it works like this for the AFVs as well.
HOWEVER
Steam does *not* support that kind of modular game. Thus, everything other than Battle of Stalingrad has to be "DLC" for Stalingrad, forcing you to buy BoS first regardless of what entry you actually want. THIS IS A STEAM ISSUE. It has nothing to do with the devs.
If you don't want to buy BoS, then buy off the il2sturmovik.com website and use the separate Great Battles launcher.
In the case of Tank Crew, because it's in EA, it's not available on Steam. However if you buy BoS on steam, you can link accounts and buy everything else on the il2 website.
This is what appears on my game menu when I start the game.. I ONLY bough Battle of Stalingrad on Steam. Everything else I bought on il2sturmovik.com

If you only want Tank Crew, buy it off the website.
So I need to basically wait then for TC to be released on Steam officially?
If so then thank you for providing this information, I was just a bit confused on what the hell was going on but your explanation does add up.
Is there a particular reason you don't want to buy it off the website?
Well for one risking 80 bucks without the ability to refund if the game won't run or I don't like it is pretty big for me since I'm on a tight budget.
They're not the only ones.
I know I probably sound like a cheapskate or something but I've already fallen the rabbit hole once by pre-ordering the Collector's Edition of Company of Heroes 2 for a hundred bucks and was sorely disappointed when they released better stuff outside of that a month later that was not included in the initial pre-order, in effect ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everybody that pre-ordered the game basically.
So yeah since then I keep my purchases on a very tight leash so to speak and like I said, prefer Steam so I am able to refund if necessary.
I have just lost trust in developers because of Relic sadly, that's all.
Well, it's the same game as IL-2 BoS, so if you own that and it runs, tank crew will run.
Also if you have BoS you can screw around in the tanks in it. They're not fully detailed like the ones in TC but it might give you an idea.
I don't own this game because planes don't interest me as much.
I'm here for the Tiger, hence my question about tank crew.
But yeah thanks for all of the info, I guess I can just wait a bit for it to be released on Steam.
If you want Tank Crew and *only* Tank Crew, you'll have to buy it off the website.
They do have sales on their released stuff on occaison (and sometimes better than Steam sales), but you'll have to wait until TC has been released for a while.
