IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Launch Option for VR Mode
Is there a launch option that will make it always start in VR mode? It's annoying to have to open up Steam and choose the "Start in VR" option every time, I'd like to be able to just start the game from a desktop icon.

<steam folder>\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\startup.cfg. Be sure the variable hdr_enable = 1
are you sure it is hdr_enable = 1 ? I thought that was for high dynamic range?

Isn't the correct one

or_enable = 1

i.e. Occulus Rift (but also works for VIVE)
Oops. I think you're right.
Thanks, but I checked the file and it already had or_enable = 1. If I launch from a shortcut it still starts in monitor mode, and then it sets or_enable = 0 on its own. If I launch in VR through steam it sets it back to 1.

I even tried setting it to 1 and making the file read-only, but it still starts in monitor mode.
Example of how I start BoS:
Run, <YOUR STEAM FOLDER>\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\Il-2.exe, <YOUR STEAM FOLDER>\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game
You mean just launching the exe? (the path is repeated twice in your post, I'm assuming this was a mistake)

I think I tried this before but I'll double check with the proper startup.cfg setting.
If you start il2.exe without a running steam client, the DLC content from steam bought after version 3.004 (no cd-key) is not available ingame! The new auth system is bad...
Ah ok I tried launching the exe and it does start in VR, but it asks you for a username and password. I haven't set that up yet, I just let it use my Steam ID. But I can set up the account if it will make the shortcut work in VR. And then I guess I should only buy content from their website as per gei3r's comment (right now I only have the base game).
The path was repeated twice because that particular call uses the second part as the path to run the program from. Same as doing a chdir in a batch file so you are in the proper folder when you launch the game. Does your startup.cfg file contain your login info? I think that would allow it to login automatically.
I see, I'm not familiar with that run command but it's not important. I don't have login info - when you buy the game on Steam it gives you the option of just using Steam authentication instead of creating a new account. But once I create the account and link it to Steam, it should log me in automatically.

Thanks for your help.
Arg that doesn't work either. When I launch with the exe and log in, it won't let me fly anything because it says BoS is not registered on my account. It's only available when I launch the game through Steam.
Interesting. I launch all my steam games that way. Have steam is running first, see it that helps.
Also, try being in the games folder prior to launching the game. Your script or shortcut should be able to do that for you.
Most games use Steam DRM, so launching the executable will actually just open Steam and start the game normally. You can tell IL-2 doesn't use this DRM because you can exit Steam and run the game from the exe.

I think it works in your case because all of your content is registered through your IL-2 account. From what I've read, the issue is only with content purchased on Steam since June when they changed the way linking works.
