define "best"

I fly the p40 which is a bugger to pilot but has great air to ground capability.

to me, this is "best"

on the LW side I fly mainly the ju52.

again, to me, the best.

sorry to be difficult ;)

from what I guess you're asking, I'd say the Fw190 and the LA5FN for the LW and Allies.

I like forward fire power so P-39 or fw-190 with quad cannon modification! These are the best! ;)

Also bf-110 is cool being a twin engined heavy fighter with everything mounted in the nose. So this one is also the best!

For every player a different answer I'm afraid. In my opinion the best Soviet fighter is either the LA-5F/FN or the Yak 7. They have good forward firepower and are decently maneuverable and fast for Soviet planes, though Germans can still outrun or outturn them in the right circumstances.

On the German end of things for fighters I like the 109 G14 or the BF 110. The G14 is, plainly, a monster. It has all the engine power in the world and a respectable set of .50 MGs along with either a 20- or 30-mm cannon. On top of the high-speed capabilities it has fantastic low speed maneuverability typical of 109s that a lot of people don’t use for some reason. The 110 is very similar to the 109 as a fighter but with more guns! And who doesn’t like more guns? People who are wrong, that’s who. The principal differences between the 109 and the 110 is the 110 is much heavier and therefor a little less maneuverable so you have to plan your maneuvers 2 or 3 ahead in order to be successful. This weight issue makes the 110 a little more difficult to work in a strict fighter role but once you come to grips with its shortcomings you can catch enemies out who aren’t expecting a 110 to fight back. The 110 also comes with something no other pure fighter gets and that is a tail gun. In most fighters you have to watch your own back but not in the 110.

I like the 109 F4 the best. Good speed and good maneuverability. Once you’re proficient with the cannon you can take Soviet fighters out with ease. The canopy has decent visibility with the headrest off. It’s lighter than the later 109 models so you can still dogfight with the Soviet fighters if you have to. It’s ability to create energy is almost second to none. I’ve smashed many a Soviet fighter in a rolling scissors with it. Something that’s difficult to do in the heavier later models.

As far as pure dogfighting goes the E7 can surprise as well. Wanna turn inside a spit? You can do it in an E7. You can almost see the surprise on their face when you pull lead with those 2 cannons on the wings. Those 2 cannons will make short work of anything in their convergence range. Just don’t expect to be outrunning anything in it.

On the Soviet side I’m starting to like the LA5s. Their rolling ability coupled with their decent turn rate is really awesome in a fight. Their speed near the deck is awesome as well. You just need to get used to aiming their guns. The LA5s seem to be a little twitchier while aiming. It takes a little getting used to.

spit mk ix., la-5 fn

109 g-14, fw 190 a3

those are the best right now, altough it needs to be said that a good fighter pilot can be a very dangerous opponent in any plane, no matter how "old" it may seem (looking at all the ishak pilots out there)
