Basic joystick configuration?
Hello pilots

I just bought this game, and a Logitech G Extreme 3D Pro Joystick.
I am kinda overwhelmed with all the different keys and buttons to configure, so I am asking, what are the most basic keys I need to configure on my joystick?

So far I have set the throttle, so I can increase/decrease that. I have 2 buttons assigned to flaps.
And of course one to drop bombs, and one to fire the planes cannons and machineguns.

I have my joystick to the far right, my mouse in the middle (For free-looking around) and my keyboard up vertical to my computer.

Also, why can I not access the American fighter planes? I only get the choice between Russian & German. I want my P-40 :)

Thank you

On the stick axis - Pitch, Roll, Yaw, Throttle (on the little tab thing).
As primary buttons on the stick - Trigger = mg, Thumb button = cannon, Top of stick = bombs and rockets.
8 way switch as PoV hat if no view control.
On the Base - Flaps, Rads

It has been a long time since I used that stick so I don't remember all of the binds but it might work as a starting point for you.

Your basic controls are:
Pitch
Roll
Yaw
Throttle
RPM / Prop Pitch
Radiators (Water and Oil)
Flaps
Landing Gear
Wheel Brakes
Trim (Pitch, Roll, Yaw)
Weapons
View Control (Pitch, Roll,Yaw, Zoom)

I would first bind the contols that need quick access for flight and combat, then for convenience whatever keys are still unused to controls that have inconvenient binds.

I usually use the quick missions to test after changing things. If vital controls get forgotten it usually shows quickly.

Hope this helps.

assign a hat to trim (up down left right = pitch/roll)

depending on what you have purchased or the mission youll not have access to every plane.

Ah, thanks for the tip :)
also don't be scared of using game setting "aids" to simplify the game to make it more accessible at first.

it really is a complex sim at heart and can be unforgiving at first.

I believe your joystick has Twist Rudder Control, so I would advise do assign the rudder to that.

Excellent advice guys, I took special note of that Twist Rudder Control so I will be sure to assign the rudder control to that.

It seems I bought BoS when I should've bought the 5in1 il-2 game, so I've done that now.

To get the P-40 you have to buy it. It is a collector plane. You could also look into the Battle of Botenplate. That pack will have lots of American planes, but it isn't finished yet. The only flyable planes there are a 109 and a Spitfire. Both good planes though.

You may find that you'll want a seperate button for machine guns and one for cannons. Most planes carry a rather limited ammount of cannon ammo, less than 100 rounds in some cases.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
