IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Is the game worth it for someone without a joystick?
Also, someone rusty with flight sims
I have a 360 goldentec controler that generally works fine with most other games; Though I prefer to play keyboard and mouse.
I am a fan of flight sims (and historical sims) but am really rusty at playing super detailed ones (the last few I played where all space themed).

Is this game worth its current discounted price for someone in my condition?

It's a simulator. You really should get a joystick. You could try and fly without one, but that would be iike steering your car with only your turn signal lever to turn left or right. At the very least, use your controller.

As for you being rusty. Practice, practice, practice. There is a massive learning curve in this game because it is a simulator. However, there are lots of great learning resources and videos on Youtube and the official Il2 forums.

Don't listen the first guy, mouse and keyboard works just fine.just like in War Thunder.you can custom and reduce realistic physical option and turn this game into arcade game if you want that.the game even have aim assist and speed adjust for you if you want casual experience.

btw unless if you want to join most popular servers in multiplayer you need to have joystick, because that server force everyone to use it.but single player career without a joystick is total worth(especially if you sick of balance in War Thunder).it's doesn't take so long to reach combat area like in il-2 sturmovik 1946.you flying and enjoy sightseeing about 3-5 min then you can pew pew pew some plane down and collect some medals.

the joystick thing is hard for me, as all the good ones cost a lot in my country, and I honestly cannot justify buying something that costs 900+ bucks for 1 or 2 games

You can get some pretty good joysticks for 40-80 US dollars.

In my currency, those prices equal to about 140+ to 350+ bucks.

why don't you try the game yourself and see if K+M works for you? you can refund if you play under 2 hours you know?

because I can only get refunds to the steam wallet, with the buying methods I use; so even if I do get the refund, that is money that I wont have direct access to, if needed; but I might try that anyway.

Its a sim quality game. Without Joystick, it will be extra hard...you wont be able to enjoy.

Lol why would you buy 900$ joystick? It's complete waste of money.. I mean of that would be your only hobby then yeaa maybe. Still why would anyone pay so much money for a stick? Maybe for DCS and modern jets with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of buttons to use. But it's ww2 game, you can buy GOOD joystick for 50-100$. Thrustmastr x hotas is probably most popular in the world, it's joystick with throttle. I have it for years and it works perfectly in many games.

Really get Thrustmastr x hotas, cheap and good.

I'm using a Steam controller and enjoying it more then with my Thrustmaster T16000 and TrackIR. IL-2 is in between DCS and War Thunder so you can pick and play for fun or go full sim. I don't have the time to setup everything so I just configured my Steam Controller which basically does everything trackIR and the joystick does and have my fun.

So buy it now that it's on sale! you'll love it.

He's from a different country so $900 in his currency would be probably near $150 here.
