trim mapped to joystick buttons not working
I know not all planes or control surfaces have trim, but I'm having a problem getting my joystick buttons to control trim for those that do. For example Me-109 has elevator trim and I can control it with Right-Ctl and up/down cursor keys on keyboard. However, mapped to my joystick, they simply don't work, not for any plane. I have a CH Products Pro Throttle and Fighterstick combination and the button mapping works for everything else: views, gear up/down, flaps up/down, guns, bombs, bomb-bay doors etc. The only thing not working is the trim controls: elevator, aileron, rudder/yaw. Am I missing something obvious again?

Can't help you but just to let you know, I discovered the exact same problem today with my Logitech X52. For some reason, no trim function appears to work when mapped to a controller button. So you're not alone!

Hi there

I had the same problem, what I did to resolve it was to assign a button to "Elevator trim axis","Aileron trim axis", and "Rudder trim axis".

Ignore the "Elevator trim switch: up" and "Elevator trim switch: down".

Hope that helps.

They're two different control maps. Some planes have analog trim control, which you need to use the axis map. Others have electric trim control, which you need to use the switch map.

Thanks Finney and kalnaren. I have actually set up the trim both ways: as switches and as axis and they still don't work. I have, however, flown a few more aircraft in the meantime (fooling around with quick missions) and found that the trim settings work on two aircraft, namely the Me-110 and Ju-87. Not sure why it would work on only those two aircraft and not the rest, but I really hope 1C can fix this pronto.

Some soviet fighters only have pitch trim IIRC.
yup, not all aircraft have trim, or only have pitch trim.

If somone is still having this problem:
I managed to solve it by deleting the keyboard binding in the first column and assign it to a joystick command there. Seems like a bug to me...

It took me a while to work this out - I had to go to the Trim Axes, then for the elevator trim, press on my joystick POV down, then quickly up. This way it put in my push down for raising the trim, and push up for lowering. I had to do it quickly otherwise it put in the first press twice (POV down/POV Down). Same with doing the rudder and aerolon axis.

I struggled with this issue for a long time before I realized my game folder was set to "read only" which you can change by right clicking on the folder->Properties and then unchecking the "Read Only" checkbox and hitting apply.

After that I bound both the Trim Axis and Buttons for everything including using both the Vertical Stab adjustment and Elevator Trim Up and Down on the same buttons and it worked!

"Me-109 has elevator trim" - No, it does not have elevator trim. It has stabilizer. It is unique control specific to 109. By decreasing stabilizer nose goes up so it resembles elevator trim but it is more then that. By increasing stabilizer plane is less responsive in all directions. At landing it was recommended to set stabilizer to zero.

I thought there were other German aircraft with stabilizers? Doesn’t the 190 have them?

Yes, the Fw 190 also has an adjustable stabilizer. Some of the WWI planes in Flying Circus do as well.

2024 and yes this problem still exists (at least with x52 Hotas).

NB: This is NOT Rudder axis or aileron trim. it is PITCH trim in game (Default: RCtrl+Up arrow/Down Arrow) which equates to Elevator Trim Axis, Elevator Switch Trim: UP and Elevator Switch Trim: Dow in your key bindings

It maps in the settings and keybind but when in the air it does nothing....

Testing a fix for this now.....

Ok, to fix this issue for use with Hotas (x52 here):

Go into your keybindings>plane controls and DELETE everything inside:
Elevator Trim Axis
Elevator Trim Switch: Up
Elevator Trim Switch: Down

Re-map these to whatever hotas buttons you need but NB: You NEED to map all three or this will not work.
