I've ended missions with that option before. I don't think it gives you full credit but the mission ended successfully. I prefer to land the Aircraft now.
Was your Aircraft damaged when you ended the mission? If it was, it probably calculated the odds and decided the plane would not have made it.
At the end of the mission, the results shows that my aircraft was destroyed.
Tried letting autopilot land.. on x8 speed, watching the plane go around in circles for 10 min was... not my picture of fun.
I started the mission in the air, and when the objectives are complete, it says, "mission accomplished" or whatever. In big gold letters. Then finish mission. wrecked.
Did you happen to ask or get permission to land?
Also, you still never seem to mention the condition of the Aircraft when you end the mission.
Unless you land the aircraft at the airfield, the mission will end with the plane "crashed". It isn't just career mode, it does it in Pat Wilson's campaign gen as well.
The only way around it is to actually go and land the plane :/
It's not a dealbreaker for me or anything, but it does mean I can only get one or two missions into a play session and that's it.
