Yes, it is.
Even to fly the highest Difficult is possible!
And this was explained in several other threads, tooo
Apart from thrust management it works a treat

$35 for a stick I liked better for ww2 warbirds than I do my TM Warthog. I'd still be using it if I hadn't found a msffb2 on ebay.
At $35 it won't be hard to consider replacing it if anything starts to go wrong with itin 6mo to a year.. has much better throttle control.. twist stick for rudder.. and the pitch and roll axis well feel much much much better and offer more range than your xbox controller. Just learn good stick control. Trying to slam it around hard would probably break it..the same actions would probably cause you to enter a deadly spin you might not recover from in most aircraft.
Most add sensitivity curves to pitch axis to make the center of the stick less touchy. Same with twist grip for rudders. (Same for pedals too)
If you decide you really start to enjoy this hobby.. add a CH throttle quadrant and some CH rudder pedals later.. unless you want to get pedals taht will last you through your grandkids then maybe look into more expensive custom made options.
HOWEVER.. that's all just luxury.. you'll be able to compete and get a sense of "flight" immersion from just the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro + keyboard for controlling trim/CEM.
Thrustmaster also recently put out some new plastic rudder pedals and a throttle unit that might be worth looking into.. imo having more axes to work with gives you more controllability.
My throttle unit has 5 axes (2 of which I don't use in bos because it's a weird joystick only good for modern aviation/radar equipment via DCS World).. I have pedals with 3 axes 2 of whcih are for toe brakes. And stick is pitch/roll + another axis to use for CEM or whatever I'd like and I'm still thinking of adding a CH throttle quadrant to my setup for more axes because of this sim. It's become quite the hobby for me however, so, it was worth more than investing $40 into a joystick to me.
There is also this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879337003&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=thrustmaster-_-79-337-003-_-Product

which each product of that package can also be found indivdually and I do believe the stick has a twist feature and at least one slider that can be used for throttle if all you want is the stick.
All of these are good options for getting started in a sim with flight models as realistic as these or better. Some people spend thousands on their sim setups (whistles innocently).
You don't have to.. but all of these options are better than an xbox controller. Though imo the xbox controller is more immersive and better than kb+M.
