2. theres not much money in making ww2 flight sims , its a niche markets so the price goes up , so we either pay up or our hobby dies . FYI the sims worth it.
I believe i'm more than qualified to express my opinion on the balance issues. Historically the germans lost 900-1000 aircraft in the battle. The Russians lost 2500-2700. Yet they had similar numbers of aircraft to commit to the battle. That is just one example of a clear advantage in aircraft technology.
The FW190 had a roll rate and other dominating characteristics when first introduced to the war that set it apart and contributed to i'ts dominance in a number of battle theatres, But these real life characteristics have have always been out weighed by un-realistic tweaks to opposition aircraft flight models in the interest of balance.
Don't get me wrong the Russians had some great airctaft but the germans had better. I would accept "tweaks" to FM's in the interest of balance for a game but the opposite it seems has occured for a long time. Perfect example....
The germans had the Me262 and He162 as operational jet fighters during the war, But in Il2 they added a host of american/russian jet fighters that never seen active service to the game. That's not realistic but they did it anyway in the interest of balance.
So if Balance outweighs reality, It cant really be called a simulator can it..
Statistically they are. They also are on paper. Its when they get under-modelled deliberately.. I understand the purpose of balance otherwise why would anyone fly anything less then the winning side. I just dont want to be in a situation again where I have used an inferior planes strengths professionally to earn a winning advantage "firing position" only to see my bullets hit and have little to no effect. Then to be fired apon with less effective ammunition and have to ditch immediately
Do I have to buy BOS before i can buy BOM? If i have to buy BOS and then BOM thats $128 in total. Big investment. Its a shame that its reached the point where such high prices have to be paid for a quality historical sim where the likes of Rust and Ark Survival are below the $30 mark. I guess thats why Real housewives of Beverly hills has higher ratings than the likes of History channel. Thats actually quite depressing
On Steam BoM is a DLC for BoS. But if you buy it directly from the developer's website you can run BoM also as standalone, but you won't be able to associate it with your Steam account (some people somehow feel this is important to them, Idk why). This doesn't affect the game experience in any way though.
As you can see it is on sale quite a bit. Use that steamdb site for dlc sale history also.
After getting into BOS, I bought BOM, both on sale, but at different times.
Then I liked the game so much I bought the MC. 202, FW-190, and JU-52 from the official site to support the devs $$$.
We are getting constant updates, the devs listen to the community (big long convos about how incorret the FW 190 flight model was, AND THEY FIXED IT)
Next we get battle of Kuban, check this out:
https://stormbirds.wordpress.com/2016/12/07/battle-of-kuban-what-content-is-coming-and-when/
Then after that we get 2 possibly 3 Pacific Theatre DLCs!!! Just keep in mind that each dlc/expansion like that will take about a year to complete.
That's because many people use the non-Steam version. Steam numbers don't accurately reflect the player numbers.
In that case it might be worth noting that the game requires always-on connection for anything except the quick battle function. So, if offline or the servers are unreachable somehow you cannot play campaign mode.
I only play on Wings of Liberty Server which can hold max 84 Players or so... so for me the montly 240 people are more than enough :D Its a server with an own Stats side http://il2stat.aviaskins.com:8008/de/?tour=19
Even the germans have much better planes they tend to lose overall if you look at the stats in previous months... i heard people calling it bias as well hehe. The reason is simple while the German playerbase is full of Hartmann wannabe's who ignore the mission tasks the Soviets fly alot of Ground attacker. Resulting in high kill counts for german player but more wins for soviet objective player.
Also it will play quite diffrently than Il2 from the old days... because Il2 1946 plays like an arcade game compared to this... could be at beginning really annoying here, but when you fly Germans it will be easy anyway :D you dont even need to bother with Mixture or cooling stuff.
