How hard is it for new players to get in?
Im not new to the F2P schemes (i play D2 and Warframe) but apparently this game has been out for 3 years at this point, so if i jump in as a completely new, f2p only player, how hard would the game be? is it pay2win?

I loved Ghost Recon Phantoms but the HORRIBLE monetization and 0 dev comms killed it, this game looks like it ticks all the boxes so i would love to join in.

This game is literally Socom and GRP refuge.

Before the economy change, I think the grind was absolutely disgusting but I think the new system seems way better. We'll just have to see with future battle passes whether they still do 4 BP for 4 OP or just one battlepass with all the operators. I think that was one of the biggest gripes that was being discussed.

I think the game is pretty fair to nonprem new players? They give you like 3 operators for free during your level and then doing dailies and stuff gets you at least 200k(Starting out) to either buy a new op or level up the ones they give you for free. On the daily, you get around 41,000 to either spend on operators or leveling. Weeklies have 3 stages where each gives around 30,000.

Prem accounts give you more dailies and bonus XP to level up operators faster.

Either way, give it a shot because it's free. It's a great time to join in right now while they are giving away 3200 coins for free just from playing pre-steam release.

It's not hard at all, as Caliber offers PvE/COOP as well as PvP, you can learn, practice, and level any way you like, at any pace you like. Try it out, costs nothing, and you can get started now. Lots of tutorial content that's fun too, that rewards you with XP for going through it. If you like it, support it and buy fancy content!

Alright, you guys make it sound really enticing, i usually drop cash if the game is good enough, so if the game is fai ri wouldn't mind going premium.

TY both for the detailed explanations, i might DL the standalone ver just for the free creds, heard the game has a low playercount on NA sadly, bu ti hope the steam release fixes that.

It is truly one of the biggest mysteries to me as to why Caliber never went hard with marketing after their rehaul to the economy and grinding progression. The game has a super solid identity and knows what it wants to be with regards to being a tactical third person shooter that doesnt rely on cover/rolling/sliding. I feel like it could capitalize on fallen TPS games like rogue company/GRP/SOCOM. IT's literally a market that wants what caliber provides but they just don't know about it lol.

Edit: I also want to add in for future interested people. I'm not saying the economy and progression system is perfect. Most expensive Operators are 200k and leveling them fully takes like 400k. I really do think 1C needs to either make it cost less to level them fully or provide more challenges/dailies for non-prem players. I also think it would be in 1C favor if they adopted league's system of providing players with a trial time with whatever operator's on sale that week. I think it will greatly help out non-prem players try out and buy operators that they like.

It does look like their first marketing "push" is releasing it on steam, hell thats how i found this game existed at all lmao

I'm hoping caliber does sponsored ads like war thunder/raid shadow legends in the future.
The Twitter and subreddit accounts for caliber are very lacking in terms of follow numbers/engagement :\

The guy has been going around spamming p2w. I would not take him seriously.
As JackHammerN7 has mentioned on the previous thread, they apparently locked CST operators behind battlepasses that are only for people who pay. Apparently OP operators in the current meta. They are suppose to be available after a 3 month period? I'm not sure because I never played during that BP being available.

Otherwise, the game is hardly pay 2 win. Maybe pay 2 progress really fast by free xping lvls/currency but this also occurs in almost every f2p game. Aphlea, one of the strongest assault operators in the game, is available to purchase right at the start. I'd hardly call anything in caliber p2w as they revamped so much.

I've ended up downloading the standalone client and played PVE for a few hours, the game is fun as ♥♥♥♥, in my first ever game my tean got their asses handed to them, it's grea that the mode is actually challenging, although i feel like the missions are a tad too short for my liking.

I have yet to experiance any PVP mode, as i would like to get all the base operator/newbie unlocks, but what i've played atm got me hooked.

I did see an entire spec op locked out behind a battlepass which did made me go back a little, but there are so many options i didn't really care that much, though if they ar eop in pvp then we might have a big issue.

Is there battle paas at the moment?

Not currently, but they do have them, and they're content neutral which is really nice, as players are never locked-out of content they missed it on a Battle Pass. There's an always active 'Premium' option that will speed your progress, and all of these features, bonus goodies, are cumulative/additive, so you get on a few and your progress can be really fast as far as unlocking 'stuff'.

What I especially like about the game, is it's fun at a base level, ignoring all the RPG elements the actual shooter here has some really extraordinary attention to detail and features not even replicated in any other game, like the precision shoot geometry and collision. You'll regularly see highly skilled players playing as 'Recruit' with just a handgun absolutely mop a game opposing highly leveled players demonstrating that it's neither pay or grind to win, it's simply 'learn to win',,,

Now that you mention it, i saw a lvl 50 support recruit in one of my pve sessions, the guy was cracked af, that really just proves your point even more.

I also got afree 6 day premium sub so i'll try to make the most out of it.

Be sure to complete all four prologues for each class. For this they will give 4 operatives, which, by the way, are very good, especially Assault and Medic. After a few more operatives can be obtained for training quests
Joekel Apr 9, 2023 @ 6:24am
The game is good enough for a new player to jump in. You can practice in many ways.
Training area. Quests on every role. I myself started a year ago in this game, and mostly played PvE to get operators, and to learn the basic mechanics.
Now a year later as account lvl71, i still get matched with beginners in casual PvP, both my own team as opponent . Keeps it fun tbh.
Steam release will bring a whole new level, as more players!

In terms of being able to catch up to others in competitive quality, it will all depend on you. Learning what to do and how to do it may be challenging depending on your experience level, but the game won't really stand in your way. The biggest problem is that the best way to learn the game is by experiencing as many operators as possible.

Catching up to others in terms of quantity will take a while, though. Took me a little more than a year of mostly active participation to get almost all operators (still waiting for discounts for the last 3 I'm missing). They've made the economy more relaxed, but they've also been adding new operators (and will continue to do so).

Very approachable for beginners IMO :) There are easy to learn, yet challenging PVE modes that you can get stuck into for hours!
