Beds disappearing

I've placed my own crafted wood bed and a metal bed I found. When I save (by sleeping on my bed) and quit, when I load my game back up, sometimes the bed will not be there. I've placed my third bed down in the same spot.

The place where the bed was remains as my spawn point but I can no longer sleep through the night as there is no bed.

Any known fixes?

Also, while I'm at it, are the giant enemies supposed to be able to one-hit kill you?
