Atlatl before Bows!
One thing that i have never seen in a game is the atlatl its always bows. Long before the bow there was the atlatl; it is basicly a spear thrower for more check it out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spear-thrower

You guys are right on trak with going from stone tools to metel i would like to see spears and atlatl before bows. An atlatl uses a lanching stick for leverage and uses a a projectile typicaly with a smaller than a throwing spear and an arrow thow some will use full sized spear. The advantage with the bow over the atlatl was range and easier to learn reletivly of course.

I would love to throwing spears then atlatls then bows as a technological progression simmilar to what has been done with stone to metal tools/weapons. To my knowlage i have never seen a game use the atlatl before and it would be something to help it stand out. BTW it was atlatls that were used in mamoth hunts back in the day.

Civilization of today is so fragile, and we have not made it to the point where we could rapidly recover in a world wide disaster.

Back on point though. I like the idea, but as with all weapons a person will use the best option. The bow trumping the Atlatis, so it's use would be short lived and just a novelty. If implemented it should be on par with advantages and disadvantages that would compare to a BOW. The bow itself has so many more options as well, Crossbow, Recurve, compound, long.

Well yeah, don't take this as critism, I think it's a decent idea but doesn't meet the technological timeline of the game. Not that it would matter the designers/developers can do as they want. It's just that what you suggest is a primitive man tool whearas the game more feels like a dark ages and of course fantasy world type of setting.

That weapon would work well in a primitive world where you would need to learn things like making fire, the wheel or forging. This game clearly makes it feel as many simple technologies of that make have already been discovered.

if its so dark ages why are there stone axes and tools in the game? the game spreads the technological time line from stone to metal tools as is and is in keeping with the current game.

Slings would be nice, simple weapon.. easy to make, sinew, a piece of leather.. and some pebbles as ammo..

yea now your thinking man, from the technogicly simple and fewer resources to the advanced requiring more and rarer resources thats what i like about this game and this path is in keeping with the games current core identity.

Well any type of missile weapons would bee great. Sling, bow anything to shoot those deer before they hit the shoreline to go surfing.

Bow it or atlatl, I just hope devs make deers unkillable with melee as soon as we get traps, baites and ranged weapons in our posession!

they don't have to make them unkillable to melee thats silly but they can achive the same effect just by making them more skidish or easly startaled more apt to run when you get closer.

which then defeats the purpose of the ability to sneak in bushes and jump a deer.
