Positioning containers
How do you go about positioning containers? I know how to pick up a Wooden Chest and move it to approximately where I want it, but I can't figure out how to get it in the exact spot and facing the way I want it to.

Throw things at it, ie helms. Devilin Pixy is the undisputed master at that art :)

Sound like a pain in the behind. So I'll probably do it, since I am OCD too.

So how do you pick up a wooden chest? I can`t figure out how.

You must have one of your five hotbar slots free. If it is free when you build the box, it goes there automatically. If you open inventory (i) while an <empty> chest is on the ground, you can move it from the big area on the left that represents "stuff lying around nearby" to a hotbar slot.

Aha so simple! But not easy to figure out. Thank you. )

Are you Serious?!?

It's doable but the amount of time it would take is beyond even my own OCD. Instead I have switched to enchanted chests.
Don't forget that some enemies, namely spear skellys, can spear you through the walls of smaller buildings if they think they can reach you, and knock your chests all around into a mess. :')

Yeah, good reason to not put too much time into arranging them just yet.

Yup ;-)

Totally agree with you. It is most likely not worth the time spend. The latest updates made it even harder to position chests as items now drop at your feet. The only way to correct placement would now be throwing rocks at them.

Why Enchanted? Do they place differently?

And not that I have the Patience (Non-OCD), but how exactly do you throw something? I thought I read somewhere to use the G key; but with a boot in my Hotbar I used G, but it just dropped the boot... didn't go flying across the room.

EDIT: Okay... I guess Pixy just explained the second question - LOL

Yeah this baffled me as it is worse than the barely predictable tossing. At least the old way I could manage to throw chests on top of beds, tables, etc.

Enchanted hold a lot more, so you don't need as many.

You can't toss anymore, things just drop at your feet. A definite step in the wrong direction. I liked this game, but lately I have been questioning whether I should take a 6 month hiatus to see if the devs eventually regain their sanity.

Well, with building options being worked on, I can imagine this to possibly allow for changes being made to the way chests currently work. I am certainly still in favour of making chests a diagram or alternative changes to allow for better placement and without creatures being able to collide with them.
