I have the same problem (black screen at launch) and the cause is my CPU.
I have a i7 5960X (8 cores/16 theads) with the hyperthreading on.
The solution is to disable hyperthreading in the bios and game work fine...
I find it unacceptable to have to mess with the bios to be able to enjoy a game....
It's a cluster muck.
Mortal Kombat X – MKX.exe has stopped working or Black screen on startup
If you are experiencing Black Screen or startup or mkx.exe has stopped working when you launch the game. You must download and install the latest Graphic Card drivers to resolve this issue. If problem persists then delete the Option.ini (configuration file), from %APPDATA%\MK10.
C:\Users\[Insert Your Computer Name Here]\AppData\Roaming\MK10
However, I couldn't navigate directly to it. I had to do a serach for options.ini from my start menu and then go to open folder location. It's a total pain in the @$$.
Sad to see a game made in 2015 requires fixes to make it playable like some pre-2000 game. And that the fix for this doesn't come from the developers.
You won't be able to SHIFT + TAB or enter faction war after doing that. Just enter MK10, leave. Click on MK10's properties and verify the game's integrity. After that is complete you will be able to SHIFT + TAB in game and join the faction war.
