Coalesced.ini and the 30 FPS lock
Anyone got it decrypted? I believe we'll find some interesting settings on it... I would like to remove the forced 30 FPS.

Some others may find out where to change this 30 FPS lock with the use of cheatengine. I'm pretty sure it's just a switch.

I believe it could be intercepted via Cheat Engine, it must a trigger or flag of some sort. We can always hope it's something like 30FPSMode = true

If it uses UE3, the problem is most likely that accursed FrameSmoothing something or other.

I have bad news guys, the file does have some settings that are linked to the framerate/ hz but not all of them. Specifically the cinematic settings aka 30 fps/hz (yes it's the name they gave to the "feature" belive it or not) are linked to other files and are not able to be changed directly through the *.ini file.

Made several tests and it seems that the game upon startup will check if the settings match with the hard-coded settings the developers set up. If they mismatch the game will just terminate itself.

Unless some gifted guys have the patience to get around this, it is all to the mercy of the developers to remove the locks on the game for us or at least make it friendly for people with 120/144hz monitors. And I am pretty sure that this will never happen on the side of developers not because of being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or incompetents, but to have a consistent game model going on all of the plataforms.

I regret dearly to have spent money on this game with these locks, I knew it was UE3 and bought it thinking it would be a beauty to tweak. Ended up having to revert back to my old 60hz monitor to be able to play this game without the massive framerate difference on a 144hz monitor.

I annoyed about this too, but the game is designed and built around 60fps, if you render it faster it will actually break the game due to all the moves being frame based and require the game ot run at 60 frames per second.

This of course does not excuse the 30 fps lock in the xrays.

For this game I put my monitor down to 60 in the windows control panel instead.

Man, they really made sure we couldn't get a FULL 60fps experience didn't they. I don't get it. They gave us a massive game with a ton of content, the gameplay is fantastic, everything about it is so good (aside from online and the krypt bug), but all of the non-gameplay segments had to be 30fps locked.........WHY!?

It's so weird because when I pull off a brutality and it stays in 60fps throughout and even for the win animation, it looks so good. It's just funny that they wanted the 30fps segments to feel "cinematic" yet the cinematics.......the freaking CINEMATICS of story mode are all in 60fps........that kind of goes against their own logic.

Story mode wasn't 30fps, didn't feel cinematic at all 4/10 - IGN

Its UE3, unless the developers did a very piss poor job, increasing the frames per second will not interfere with the combat frames nor speed up the game, it will only add "extra" frames in between of the combat frames making it more fluid for higher hz monitors.

The problem is that they went to the bother of hard-locking the game, you can see in several situations (if you have a powerfull pc) that the game at the start of loads, shoots up beyond the 60 fps mark and gets down to the 60 mark in about two seconds. You can see this clearly at the end of the character selection just before the loading (where people are complaining that the taunts are not visible) the fps count shoots up again and for about a second or so you can see the animations much more fluid before the screen goes black.

It also baffles me the decision of reducing the fps by half in the slow motion sections and in the krypt, the bigger the amount of frames the better it looks in slowmotion. Who thinks less frames is more cinematic is not thinking clearly or is a plain idiot, they can just look at video recorded with those "high-speed cameras" (recording an absurd amount of frames in tenths of a second) people should get the gist of this.

Disgusting is the word that comes to mind that in 2015, launching at the same time of grand theft auto v brilliant port and the incoming killing floor 2 with animations of 200fps, we are stuck with this. This will by my last purchase of any of their titles if this continues as it is, there is just nothing reasonable that can justify their choice.

The story cutscenes are rendered at 30FPS. Steam and any other FPS counter will tell you otherwise but that's because the engine is running at 60 FPS while playing a 30 FPS video.

I don't know why you're complaining about FPS when you can't even tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS unless a counter at some corner of the screen tells you...

It's very easy to tell the difference between 30 and 60 especially the couple of time my game got locked to 30fps it was some of the choppiest gameplay I have ever seen.

That said I have absolutely no issue with the 30 fps during cinematics. Movies do it (well about) to look more cinematic. They've tried 60fps movies they look like soap operas. I really don't know why so many people think that someone is gonna find a "fix" for this when both mk9 and injustice did this and are still doing it with no workaround.

I just looked further into this and the game hard sets the display to 144 hz anyway.

Instead I locked the game to 60fps in the nvidia inspector.

I remmeber the tekken producer saying that they experimented with putting their game down to 30fps to get it running on consoles but found it broke the game due to the moves being based around frames, i just assumed the opposite may be the case. Im probably wrong in this instance (rendering over 144hz)

Its less jarring if you can the game to 60fps though.

all an all a retarded decision by the developers. 30fps is not cinematic for games it just makes the animations look choppy.

30fps is great during some scenes in the game. I would have asked for 24fps during any cut scene to give it that move look. 60fps during dialogue makes it look like a soap opera.

I don't know why you're telling me this. I can obviously tell the difference because I noticed that the movies are rendered at 30 FPS even though steam tells you that the game is running at 60.

I was replying to the person I was quoting who complained about xrays dropping the FPS cap to 30 yet he didn't notice that cutscenes also have the same cap just because the engine itself still reported 60 FPS.

Either something's really wrong with his eyes or he just needs the placebo effect of the overlay reporting 60 FPS at all times for the game to look good enough to him.
