According to some of the banter back and forth on youtube with this guy. The code he used was in the game caches and he "unlocked" it or something. So this looks like a somewhat "available" character. Or he modded the code in such a way that he can use him. I didn't see any character select screens of him choosing him. I have no idea how he is doing this. I am not that literate with code.

There is no real unlockable playable corrupt shinnok.

Someone has made Rain a playable character..he worded it wrong but bascially he got Rains files, renamed them to Shinnok's and it works. He says it tricks the game..its not (but I get what he means). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twG6D8WrfBM

Yeah that's modded. You can tell in the second clip where the win scene isn't even rendered completely.

Still cool. Great find.

JULY 2017: For those having MKXL (PC) not getting NPC (not playable characters) unlocked,
Follow these steps:

1- Download: bypass steams no-mods check
from
https://www.mksecrets.net/forums/eng/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=9979

[ Extract and place these 2 files in your MKXL installed directory, which in my case is C:\Mortal Kombat XL\Binaries\Retail folder ]

2- Follow the remaining steps from this page:
https://tech4gamers.com/how-to-play-as-rain-sindel-baraka-and-corrupted-shinnok-in-mortal-kombat-x-unlock-skins-for-the-mobile-version/

follow the process and hopefully you will get your NPC unlocked.

Modding the code, seriously? he was such a great programmer that he alone sit home and had a cup of coffee and modified the code, A code written by hundreds of programmer..
Oh come on, he just renamed the files, like i did and had my NPC unlocked.
Concept is: you rename the files of BossShinnok as the name of Simple Shinnok, and then you replace the simple shinnok with those renamed files (Boss Shinnok).
And when you choose that shimple shinnok, which is now a Boss Shinnok, you can play with him.
