Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is Mortal Kombat 9. It came out in 2013.

Mortal Kombat X is Mortal Kombat 10. It comes out on Tuesday.

They are 2 different games.

Unless you are a troll. In which case... "your mom" I guess?

And btw, 2011 was the "vanilla" MK 9. Komplete Edition for consoles came out in 2012

As MKX is not out yet, we have no indication whether it's going to be a good fighting game or not. Nevertheless, it's the "new" game, which means, it is going to have much better graphics than its predecessor and will occupy more players in its online mode. It is also going to cost you more.

MK Komplete Edition was a great fighting game, which however suffered by certain awkward issues: lack of 1-player versus mode and connection issues in the multiplayer.

If you have 5 extra bucks to spare, in my opinion the best course of action would be to buy the Komplete Edition (it's on sale right now selling for 5 euros / dolars on Steam) and if you like it, you can then buy X as well (50 euros on Steam, but you can definitely find it cheaper at a store near you).

You won't have enough time to know if you will like it. The online for MK 9 is dead or will be dead anyways.

Just buy the MX X and wait for it to release on Tuesday.

Well, he doesn't have to buy MKX Day 1. He can buy it in a month or so. Wouldn't it be better if he spent 5 bucks to check if he likes a franchise rather than spend 50 and decide that he doesn't like it?

I'd say buy MK 9 since it's really cheap now ($5). If you like that game, chances are you'll like Mortal Kombat X too.

Yeah but Goro will most likely be available as a DLC purchase later on or as part of an inevitable MK X Komplete Edition.

As a matter of fact, that is already confirmed. I read it on Gamespot. But I can understand where the ideogram guy comes from. For one, I am getting X on Tuesday and I am really looking forward to playing as D'Vorah.

Like many said, MKX and MK9 (aka MK2011, MK komplete collection) are 2 different games. I'd say though, that both are worth getting- MK9 for classic characters and also prequel story to MKX (its basically 3 first MK games story retold and changed a bit to suit purpose of given story) and MKX.. well, not sure why at moment at least, but looks are awesome.
