Why use reptile
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09_yp9Hz8SI

His comment about reptile lacking like spider-man from UMVC3 made me laugh. I feel like at the end of the day it comes down to the player and his skill. Sometimes I wish reptile did a bit more damage. also, his dash is so slow.

At the end of the day, for me at least it is all about the toons themselves. I have fun when I play, I can even string some decent 35%+ kombos on a few toons in actual games... but I am not elite. While top level players might see Reptile and all his problems, at my level he is as much as a threat as anyone else when someone knows how to use them. He might never be top tier, but again... at my level myself and my friends pick toons because they are cool. For example I watch a lot of Max's streams and he dose complain about Reptile but he still wins like 90% of all his matched. You would need to be so high level to feel his problems... so it comes down to .. Do you think he is cool.. do you like his moves?
Maybe it's my xbox 360 controller but I find reptiles longer combos near impossible to pull off with any sort of consistency. They literally have a one frame margin to get right otherwise they are dropped. For example, for the combo where you use super speed and then slide before he hits the ground, if my controller happens to do down, down, down + A + RT instead of down, down A + RT then it won't work. Won't work if A and RT aren't the same frame, or if I do it too early, or if the magic timer in the background says I can't do it, or if I get a rogue direction in there that delays it by a frame. Likewise, if you do the slide too early it won't work either. Nevermind how hard that is with an xbox 360 d-pad. I don't bother using meter for anything but x-ray, which arguably if you consider the fact that it sets you up for some excellent zoning by immediately throwing a slow ball afterwards, the true damage of the x-ray is like 45% or more, which is quite a bit more than I could hope to get by extending a combo with meter several times. Only issue is that online there is bullcrap where the xray is sometimes not armored like its supposed to be.

My gameplay tends to look more like what you see with that last round in the video. A mix-up of low or high combos, played defensively to prevent your opponent from doing any combos on you. Can't really zone scorpion, so you have to pressure him with your own 50/50s. Of course, his leg wake-up trumps everything but a low block or jumping over it.

Problem is some characters are very difficult to defend against (such as erran black, takida, or kung jin) which is where an equalizing large combo to punish with would come in handy.

Yeah, it takes a while. The problem is that MK has always been a mix of buffed inputs and timed ones.

So pressing 114 as fast as you can will do the string... but to combo after you might need to wait until the other guy starts to fall before entering the next part of the combo. This is really hard online as well due to lag.

I often find that when I am having problems it is caused by trying to enter the strings to fast and not waiting for the timing. It isn't a single massive string.. but a combination of strings.

The best idea is to find a easy combo to start on. Then break it down into parts. Do not try to learn the entire combo in one go. Work it out in steps.. get the start happening... then the middle, then the end.

Take this one for D'Vorah. It is a great combo, though a little hard to do online, so I modified it.. still it is a great example of what I am talking about.

f44,f34,b12xd1+3

This is a sweet 32% all variations combo that looks awesome!

To learn it start with f44,f34 This is pretty easy... you should get that going really fast.

Then try b12xd1+3... this means do the string b12 cancel into down throw. This is not hard either.. but can be a bit tricky on a gamepad I think.. but learn it.

Then the real hard bit is ... f34,b12 forward 34 kinda kicks the other guy over your head, b12 is the popup. You need to work out the timeing to flip him and hit the popup.. Now just punching it in as fast as possible will not work.. you need to time it as well.

Then once you have that and if you are like me it will take a while.. start adding the "cancel to throw" thing at the end.

Then your set.. as the f44 starter is not hard at all.

I use a arcade stick... I couldn't handle a D-Pad personally. The 360 D-Pad is universally recognized as one of the worst ever produced. Besides really strange ones. like this monstrosity!

hahahaa

Also I recently bought a HitBox.. I saw it during combo breaker as a ad on one of the streams and it looks awesome.. so thought I would give it a go.

It is really odd.. basically it has no joystick... just buttons for direction. So it is kinda like a massive D-Pad controller. Like the EvilGenius ones.

Anyway I thought it would be cool. I'm loving MKX on pc and expect Injustice 2 as well eventually... so thought I'd give it a shot!

Since I watched the MK movie I've been a Reptile main XD. I prefer his moves in MK9, but I've made do with him in this game. I agree with Max when he says there are characters who can do what Reptile does but better though. Skill does matter sure, but when there are better more effective options out there, players would flock to those characters.

I would wish Reptile had more damaging combos, and that his nimble variation came out faster. I find myself only using noxious because I could never land nimble combos thanks to the awful netcode. Also wish he had a human ninja skin.

why dose everyone hate that he looks like a snake guy? I mean no one seams to care that Ermac dosn't still look like a normal pallet swapped human. I think he looks and sounds cool.

I didn't mind as much in MK9 when he never spoke and just made hissing noises and junk. Then he starts talking in this game and his voice irritates me so much xD. Its just my personal preference. I fell in love with MK movie reptile, so that's my reason for prefering him as a human.

Haha, funny you should say that. I actually hate Ermac's design in this game and prefered him in MK9 (especially the ninja costume). I think he looks like an ugly old wizard/mummy; also dislike how he floats.
Tragic 26/mai./2015 às 1:38
yeah, but Ermac used to be human, as in SubZero / Scorpion ... like reptile he was a direct pallet swap. MK9 vs MKx is just a design preference, the change is well and truly made. Still unlike Ermac people are still asking for human form reptile and I find it odd that no one says that about Ermac.

I like human Ermac , but all the end who cares how the character looks like as long u handle it good in combat.

MK 9 I used to a lot the human skin Ermac , but end up liking more the MK 9 costume more because all those klassic skin were pretty simple idea.

Well atleast I don't feel alone, The combos I can connect with nimble are in the corner. That's the only reason why I use it, its freaking fun to do. The combos I use with one bar gives me 29% - without it goes down to 27%. Its just about who you fight also. I was thinking about getting a arcade stick, but I don't know whats good.

reptile is my fav just cant play because the game freezes when i accept a challenge online
OutColdCdn 26/mai./2015 às 10:42
his fatalaties and voicing are hilarious btw
Is there any use for the stealth variation? They really nerfed his invisibility from MK9. It used to do bonus damage and last forever until someone hits you. Now it has a time limit, has the same cooldown timer as nimble, and does no bonus damage nor other buffs.

I have no idea, there's no real reason to use it yo.
