MKX not working with Windows 10 Troubleshooting

So, I see many topics about MKX not working in Windows 10, so I created this topic for troubleshooting.

First, make sure you have installed Windows 10 64 -bit. Also a windows 10 clean install is always recommended, because the upgrade installation is not very smooth, there may be conflict with drivers, conflict with software already installed from your previous version of windows, virus/malware you have on your previous OS will also be there with your upgrade to the new OS. You can really end up with a messed up OS.

If your MKX is not working in windows 10 then try the following:

Check the Minimum requierements:

MINIMUM:
OS: 64-bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
Memory: 3 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 | AMD Radeon HD 5850
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 36 GB available space

See? MKX requieres a 64-bit OS! Make sure you are running on a 64 bit OS.

Reinstall Visual C++ and DirectX

-After an upgrade from windows 7, 8 or 8.1, you need to reinstall Visual C++. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679#

The reason of this is becaue it seems windows 10 doesn't update Visual C++ when upgrading. You can also install the missing .dll file if after the Visual C++ update you still get the problem. An easy way to know if you are missing the Visual C++ update is to open the MK10.EXE from the steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MK10\Binaries\Retail) and if you get an error message saying that you are missing a msvcr110.dll file, then indeed this is the issue with Visual C++ dll files.

To install msvcr110.dll manually: Download the msvcr110.dll file from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr110 . Choose the one on the right, that says Manual Fix. Choose for the 64 bit. This will download a .zip file, after the download, unzip the file.

Copy the msvcr110.dll file in the following folders:

C:/Windows/System32/
C:/Windows/SysWOW64/

To install the DirectX go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MK10\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ , and execute the file DXSETUP.exe.

If you still have issues, then continue with the next step.

Clean installation of GPU drivers

-Use DDU to clean uninstall GPU drivers. http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/download/DDU%20v15.4.0.0.exe

Always, always, a clean driver install is your best option, it is known for years now that overwriting GPU drivers can affect performance of your GPU and can crash your system. Do not use Windows Update to install your video drivers, always download them from their offical website. Use beta drivers on your own risk, they may not be stable!.

-Re-install your gpu drivers after the clean uninstall, make sure you are installing the correct drivers for Windows 10. Restart your PC after the installation, then launch the game.

If didn't solve the issue then try the next step.

The Options.ini file

-Delete the file options.ini of MKX then launch the game. (Options.ini is located in C:\Users\YourWindowsUserNameHere\AppData\Roaming\MK10)

As you did an upgrade, you will keep your old options.ini file, it is recommended then to delete. Once you launch the game, MKX will automatically create a new options.ini.

If you still get a black screen or a problem with incorrect resolution, then open the options.ini file, and check the resolution, sometimes is blank or incorrect, you may change/add your resolution there in the options.ini, then save the file and launch the game.

Gamepad drivers

-Unistall Gamepad drivers. Windows 10 comes by default with gamepad drivers installed.

Verify Integrity of Game Cache or re-install the game

-Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Go to your Library and right click Mortal Kombat X, then go to properties, then Local Files, and then click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This should check some files, and download some files. It can take a couple of minutes.

If the above didn't work, then uninstall and re-install game if you dare to download the whole game again....

Other issues

MKX auto minimize:

This is due to another software that is doing this, if you have this issue, you may have it too with other games. In my case, it was the Citrix Receiver doing this, while it was in the Notification Area, this software was minimizing any full screen application at random times, annoying, so if you have Citrix Receiver installed, before playing games, right click on the icon in the Notification Area and then click Exit. If you still continue to have the minimizing issue, then it must be another software, close all unnecessary software and test, until you find which one is making the issue.

MKX no Audio

Make sure to install your audio drivers correctly. Download and install updated drivers.

You executing from "crack" folder ? :P , that should be the issue that your binary (MK10.exe) is located in "that" folder. Anyway I am not familiar with the pirated version, so maybe you should check from where you got it.
