Is Kitana a good character for a new MK player?
I play Street Fighter/Marvel/ KOF and Guilty Gear. But I want to jump into this game.

Kitana seems like a character I would like to main, however I am new to the MK style of gameplay and overal feel so I would like to use an "easy mode" character. Easy mode as in decent damage, decent zoning, and easy to do combos.

I dont want a character who has really hard to do combos. Some people have said to use Scorpion, but I really don't wanna use him.

Some people have also said that Kitana sucks as a character, but if she's easy to use and will help me get the hang of this game then I dont care if she sucks ^-^

Easy mode character with decent damage, zoning and easy to do combos isn't what Kitana can do. Shes pretty hard to win with. Pretty bad normals, combos can be fairly challenging to get past 36 percent, probably the only character who can properly tiger knee air projectile in MKX, and has terrible options with 50/50s, which is what MKX is heavily built on.
A easier character with some decent zoning is Grandmaster sub zero. Another is Pyromancer Tanya.

I don't play as Kitana but you can start by knowing how to throw her fans and air dashing and mix that with the easiest combos you can do.

I didn't really mean "easy to win with" I meant easy to learn the feel of the game. I usually use characters that I like based on looks, but this time since this is a new game for me i'm willing to use someone else just to "learn" the game.

Basically I was asking if Kitana could fit that role since she's the character that I actually like. I don't care if I lose with her sometimes.

The other character that I like is Erron Black but I heard he's difficult to use and wouldnt be a good begginer character for me.

Wait for the next balance patch to hit pc, makes kitana viable instead of being complete trash.

Kitana combos themselves aren't the hardest to learn I guess. Definitely easier than Dvorah or Heavy weapons jax combos, I wouldn't pick a character simply based on "well i know how to do this combo". You wanna pick a character who has easy to use options that can lead you to those combos. Kitana struggles with that. She can do it, but it's way harder than with a Kung Jin, Tanya, etc.
Erron black is not easy. He has a few moves that can be fairly challenging for beginners to use in combos since they're very odd commands, or strict on the dial up combo string.
Tbh though, don't listen to me. play who you want. If you like Kitana, play Kitana. You can learn this game no matter waht character you play. It just takes time. There's no easy route really. You gotta get in there, lose a LOT, and learn.

Shes like a step slightly above trash in the next patch but to me.. her patch is like putting a bowtie on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The game looks 2d, but plays more like a fast 3d fighter, so Tekken/Virtua Fighter skills are a lot more relevant than SF-style skills.

kitana should be getting lots of buffs soon with the Predator patch, they sped up a bunch of her stuff, so maybe after that drops she'll be even fiercer.

damage, zoning, combos.. then I'd have to recommend Full Auto Jacqui Briggs. Some nubs can't get their heads past her gatling gun, but besides the gun, which is her zoning tool, she has really intuitive combos and it's not that hard to do 30% combos with her. It's a jack-of-all trades variation. Only tricky part is you need to get good at run canceling, which is a special beast in this game, but once you have that essential skill a LOT of combos open up for a LOT of characters. The tutorial will tell you run is F,F,Block. That's crap and won't work in combos. Do two press, F, then F+Block simultaneously and you're combos will be funtimes.

Very awesome, in depth guide to get anyone up and running with full auto jacqui:
