http://www.testyourmight.com/threads/the-official-johnny-cage-combo-thread.51325/
i would also try playing kung jin bojutsu if you are new, he have easymode combos
Second, thanks for all info...I was actually going to ask if there were any characters that were good to start with.. After watching some a-list johnny, I can see he uses the nut punch a lot to extend stuff.
My last MK game was the £D one on PS2 so there are a lot of deeper mechanics here that I am yet to grasp. on the surface, X looks a lot like the early games though, I'm sure with some practice it'll all start to make sense.
Will try kung jin out, any other sugestions, also if anyone knows of any guides or specific youtube uploaders that have been of use to you and you don't mind posting a link, it would be appreciated. thanks.
It seems like you don't understand what a cancel is. To do longer combo string, you'll want to link your specials with your basic combos. I'm not a Johnny player so I'll use Jax as an example.
Before that though, think of the 1234 you see when people discuss moves, as the top row buttons, then bottom row buttons from left to right. So 1 = X (reg punch), 2 = Y (strong punch), 3 = A (reg kick), 4 = B (strong kick)
Jax has a basic combo 123. Jax has a special B(ack)F(orward) 2 in short, BF2.
Jax can link his basic 123 combo with his special. Now, when linking combos with specials, you can just input the 123 combo, wait, and then input the special. That's two different attacks. You need to do it fast enough, or within the cancel frames to link them. For most combo->special links, it usually works when you input it all as one input, like this:
123BF2
You'll want to experiment with Johnny. Sometimes when you link with the special, it will just end, but sometimes, especially with EX specials, the special will do something different so that you can continue with another combo. I know that Johnny for example, his EX nut punch will launch the opponent into the air, allowing you to do another combo.
Lots of good advice above, and cancels are a big part of this. There will be metreless and metre combos as well. Many characters can do high 20's to low 30's metreless in this game.
Someone linked to Testyourmight above, and that's a great forum.
Go there, read up on some of Cage and his combos. Write down one or two that look reasonably simple, and then go to training and try the first part of it. Then see if you can extend it. If not, try the second part and see if you can do it, then try linking again.
It's all practice, timing, and cancels.
I got a meterless for ermac that is really simple that does about 36%, it's a good place to start off as I have it broken down into segments to learn it piece by piece.
I think master of souls is going to be a good starting place for me... I will come back to Johnny a bit later on though as I love all of his variations.
