White Screen Crash(Plz Help)
I bought this game yesterday, Whenever I click play, I am prompted to install VCredist, and when I attempt to install it I get a fatal error and it closes. After that, the "game" opens in the form of a small white screen window for around 2 seconds before crashing with "Sleeping dogs definitive edition executable has stopped working". I have read into this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unfixable issue and have found NO solution whatsoever. Support won't do anything... and from what i've seen, this problem has been active for more than 3 MONTHS. Seriously? I am beginning to lose hope as it appears that I will probably have to buy a console just to play this game.
Specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
1920 x 1080 60Hz Resolution
8GB RAM
Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Overclocked

There is always a solution; Since these issues are mainly software related, the ideal blanket approach to fix the vast majority of the issues, would be to reinstall your operating system - however, that is a tedious process, reserved only as a 'last resort', so it is rarely recommended.

Give Technical Support a try; it may take a week or so to get a response though.

In the mean time, ensure that your system (operating system, GPU, CPU, etc) is updated to the latest drivers / version.

Verify the integrity of the game, and have a look through a Post which Solved a Similar Issue.

Enjoy :)

I gave techical support a try and all I got was this:
Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Support Centre.

We are sorry that you are experiencing these issues with the Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition.

The cause for this issue could be an outdated graphics driver. We suggest going to the manufacturer's website to get the latest driver. Please make sure you uninstall the old driver before installing the new and up to date driver.

You may also wish to check your version of direct X and ensure that it is also up to date. You can download the last version of Direct X here: http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/aboutgfw/pages/directx.aspx

We would also advise to verify the integrity of the Game Cache. You can do this by going on Steam, ?Library?, ?Properties? then ?local files? and Verify the Game Cache.

Please check that you are running the game and Steam as administrator and that your firewall/antivrius programs have all necessary excepptions; you may also wish to try creating new administrator account, this can sometimes resolve the issue.

I've done all of these and they still don't work.

Hey

- Try launching the game DIRECTLY from the main game folder:
1) Right Click "Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" from your Steam games list
2) Click Properties > Local Files (Tab) > Browse Local Files
3) The "SleepingDogsDefinitiveEdition" Folder will open up
4) Scroll down and launch the application "sdhdship.exe"

- Does the game run?
- Do you get an error code? Something like: "The program can't start because .............dll is missing form your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Running the game from the executable yields the same result. A small window showcasing a white screen that crashes after about 5-8 seconds. I think I've been researching this problem for at least a week at the moment... this is complete torture.

My suspicions is that this might have something to do with the fact that, every time I try to run the game, steam opens up a vcredist setup that gets a fatal error during the attempt to install it. I don't know if this will help, but here's the installation log:

Hey

The game (may) default to the integrated (Intel HD 4000) card; Ensure that the game runs on the Nvidia 760M card - have a look at the steps below:

1.0) Nvidia Low FPS on Dual Graphics Set Up

Sounds like your laptop is defaulting to the GPU on your motherboard. You need to go into your video card settings and make sure that Sleeping Dogs runs on your dedicated video card. I can't help you with the specifics, but I've seen several other people with the same problem.

After game patch and with new nVidia drivers game is playable and performance is way better than before. I can now play smoothly without FPS drops on my ♥♥♥♥ty GTX550Ti.

So if you got decent nVidia card and still poor performance in game - try update your drivers to newest one.

1.1) Dev Edit: added steps to force NVidia GPU:

Hey there,

You can force your laptop to use the more powerful graphics card. Have a google around for the NVidia GPU Optimus solution for more info. Here's a quick copy paste of how to do it:

Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel by right clicking on your desk top and clicking on "NVIDIA Control Panel".

In the default screen that pops up (it should be "manage 3D settings", and the "Program Settings" tab should be automatically selected), under "1. Select a program to customize:" hit the "Add" button.

From here, navigate to the folder where your steam games are located. For me, it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.

Select the folder for the game you want to use your NVIDIA card for, and find the .exe for that game (it's usually right in the main game folder). Select it and hit open.

Then, under "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:" open the drop-down menu and select "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

Finally, hit apply in the far bottom right corner

I went into my device manager to see if I do infact have an integrated graphics card that the game may be defaulting to... unfortunately, I do not.
