Can't get Vsync to work (Windows 10)
I'm getting horrible tearing.

I tried many things: forcing vsync on the Nvidia control panel (globally and with profile) and using Nvidia inspector. Nothing works. Other games works right with W10. I'm using a gtx980 with the latest drivers. Any advice?

Hey

Have a look through the post:

VSync should remove any screen tearing with potential stuttering issue.
If you have VSync on, you should never see screen tearing.
If you see tearing, something is not right here.
The VSync is perhaps not really active, take another look for this option in nVidia control center, set it either to always active or set to controlled by the game then set in the game to on.

Going to 120Hz or 144Hz will not completely eliminate screen tearing, it is only make the tearing less visible or noticeable.
Screen tearing will always be there if the fps and the monitor's refresh rate are running unsynched, may that the GPU is faster or slower than the monitor.

The true solution for screen tearing is no other than GSync[www.geforce.com] or FreeSync[www.amd.com].
Since you have a nVidia GPU, GSync[www.geforce.com] is your way.

I know what vsync is for and I was looking for a solution that doesn't imply buying a new monitor :p

All the games I've tried in Windows 10 works with vsync on so apparently there is a problem with this game. Thanks for the help anyway.

I learned if you enable the fps counter in steam, it fixes the issue, I have no idea why.

Wow, you're totally right. That fixed it. Thanks.

Sometimes the PC world make me feel bad. I can't stand that I must find this kind of tip to run flawlessly a game. Why developpers can't fix this issue in 2016 ? Even Blizzard Entertainment continues to update their old games as Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3.

But thanks for your thread, now I know why it works fine with the steam fps counter.

Another way to fix it. My suspicion was that VSYNC was semi-working, and the problem was that it was feeding TOO MANY frames and that was the cause of the tearing. I confirmed it when I put up resolution settings that kept it BELOW 60fps and the tearing disappeared.

So another way to fix it (the steam FPS counter didn't work for me, but this did) is to use an outside source to limit the fps to just below your vsync. For me, I run a 60hz monitor and limit fps to 58 and it works like a dream now (I used NVidia inspector). No tearing and plays very smoothly.
